NYCFC Players Wanted Thread

While the above is true about Ibeagha and Hountondji, it appears it has more to do with Ibeagha impressing (and getting the opportunity to do so with Chanot red card and Hountondji at the time being not fit) than it does Hountondji disappointing.

We really don't have enough data on Cedric yet to get an idea on what kind of quality he is.
He was also the Defender of the Year in not some average USL starter we signed. 2016's Defender of the Year was Aaron Long, who is also an above average starting CB in MLS.

That's true. It's a slight difference that he can dribble. But at the end of the day he's still connecting the dots rather than being a pure and direct threat. I can see possible realities where it works out, but I'd still rather go and get a direct attacking threat.
We don’t need Iniesta. We have a version of him that’s a better fit for us and MLS already.

Seriously, what is Iniesta going to bring to us that improves us beyond what Maxi gives?

Gaining 10% over maxi on creativity and delivery means fuck all when we aren’t dealing with absolute worldies making the runs and receiving the balls.

Iniesta out of consideration for me. No need when we have Spider-Man.

Maybe our guys around him make him look better. Christopher Jee Christopher Jee could play CB next to a Callens.
No idea how Callens isn’t raved about everywhere.

Absolute joke on the part of MLS media that the likes of Parkhurst and GonzaloPerez are regularly more credited than him.

It’s so damn annoying that he doesn’t get his due. The guy is absolutely immense for us. It’s not just a troll that I call him MLS Virgil.

No doubt would Wood sell a bunch of jerseys and there’s little doubt he’d be productive, but strikers are an area in which clubs invest their resources. Toronto, LAFC, the Galaxy, NYCFC, Atlanta, Houston, and Chicago are among the many sides with stars in place up top.

Someone get this man an editor. While grammatically correct and precisely the same if stated aloud, the phrasing of that sentence bugs the piss out of me.

I actually think he’d be a great option. While obviously not at Villa levels, he does play like a younger Villa. He also has a lot of pace. Would be a great option that fits well now and in the future.

He’s also done spells as a wide man, so he fits the mold of what we look to be doing - get forwards, not necessarily wingers or strikers per se. This seems to be the direction many of the top attacking teams are going. Napoli, Liverpool, and aspirationally MC (its why Pep seems to rate Aguero lower than any of us likely would) are all built around interchangeable attackers.

I agree with the 3 forward set up. It's very interchangeable. I like that direction. Pairing that with midfielders that run the whole field makes for a very aggressive attacking style.

Eel players who will probably be available this summer (read: overpriced):

Solomon Rondon, Danny Ings, Shane Long, Jay Rodriguez

I've stated my affection for Shane Long before. I think he's a poor mans David Villa and would be a fan favorite.

You also said Gareth Barry was better than Milner. So excuse us if we take it with a grain of salt.

Ings and Rondon would kill it in MLS.

Shane Long is Gareth Barry’s little brother who plays forward.
(Read: there are plenty of unskilled dudes with pace who are healthier than Shane Long already in the league. )

Wait, so is Kenwyne Jones truly retired or would he be available?

I actually think he’s decent at what he does. Very similar to a Rondon.

Not advocating. Just nowhere else to put this random thought.
