We'd probably get the same number of years from any young player of high quality than we would from Suarez! And by that I mean probably 2, maybe 3.

If it's young like Atlanta are doing it, maybe a little more fully developed than Medina, I wouldn't hate it.
I told Patricof that if we signed a big name DP Colombian player, we'd get 2,000 more season ticket holders.
So, why can't they allocate us more of a budget? Or is it because revenues are down? Or are they just saving every nickel and dime for a large real estate development project?
To be fair, that's the cost of doing business in the premier league. The budget in MLS is what it is. I don't care if a guy is worth $10M or $2M. If he can play, I want him on the roster if he's good enough. I don't think we know as of yet what the budget is at this point.
And for the record, Man City fills a 60,000 seat stadium. Premier League shares a massive TV contract with all 30 teams, and that club has a gigantic international, worldwide merchandise operation. So yes, their budget is going to be 100x our budget because they make 100x more money.
Which comes first the player or the revenue?
If we had a PL level squad in NYCFC, we'd fill Yankee Stadium to capacity and have a big TV contract.
There are financial limitations in this league that have nothing to do with our product. Man City made something like $150M in prize money and TV contracts alone last season. That doesn't include all the other things they make money on. It's terribly unfair to compare the financial situation of Man City to NYCFC's.
I don't think this is right. There are no big tv paydays in this league.
I think they are making an incremental dollar return calculation and figuring that, with the current setup, the return on incremental dollars is not great.
We were playing as well as you can hope earlier in the year and it's not like tickets were hard to come by.
So then why is Atlanta spending $30M+ in transfer fees in the past two seasons?
Their 60,000+ fans per game probably help quite a bit. And those aren't just sunk costs. Unlike most of MLS's most expensive players, those guys will be sold at some point and they'll recoup that money. Villa, Pirlo, Lampard, Moralez were all players who don't have that kind of future.
Medina is the first NYCFC signing in that Almiron/Martinez/Barco mold. He's not as good as those guys, but NYCFC will hope to groom him and sell him on at some point in the future.
Do you ask Patricof this kind of stuff?
Again, we don't have the revenue stream Atlanta has. Atlanta has triple the attendance at a stadium they own. We have less attendance at a stadium that costs us money to use -- it's not cheap for the team to play its games at Yankee Stadium.
I just think you're being unfairly harsh. The 2nd half of the season hasn't been good, but this team has made inroads in the community and over the last three seasons has been one of the most consistent teams in MLS on the field. I think it's fair to say that while it isn't perfect, it's good. There's about 12 teams in this league, maybe more, that would kill to have our resume.
