Got an email from NYCFC that they are planning a speaker series this season with names from soccer and business. The first one will be with Don Garber, obviously. I'd like to crowdsource questions to submit. If you notice the final points, "Please note this will be a small group setting. All conversations are confidential." So I don't know much I'll be able to report back ;) but maybe we can get some real pressing questions in. Let me know what you come up with and I'll submit them. Yes, the questions are prescreened. So, #SaveTheCrew questions will likely be thrown out.

Ugh, not just once, but twice they write, “the MLS.” Doesn’t the team and league have copy editors???

Ask who paid Zlatan and how NYCFC can get those terms for Ronaldo in 2020.

Ask if a player that is on a team's discovery list is signed on loan, and then that loan expires, if that player then returns to that team's discovery list. (Garber probably doesn't know the answer to this himself)

I need to speak to my ticket rep. In 4 years, I've been invited to NOTHING.

Now - your seats are a class above mine. But I know a lot of people in my section who have done these. And I've asked for nothing. Need to start asking for shit.

Same. But I once was invited to a borough talk. Does that count? That’s it though.

Don’t you have these talks in a more private setting when your family gets together for dinner with [insert club official]’s family on Saturday nights?

Id ask if he’s worried that the Columbus situation could have ripple effects with communities that are considering expansion or stadiums such as US

Because the draft is how he entered the league.

How do people not get this?
NYCFC did not acquire Harrison through the draft. They got him via a trade. How do you not see that? SoupInNYC SoupInNYC ’s question is 100% valid.
This.

The rules state "A club shall receive the transfer or loan fee revenue (including agent fees and other expenses) from any transaction involving a Generation adidas Player or player acquired via the MLS SuperDraft based on the number of MLS service years:"

NYCFC ("The club") acquired Harrison via trade and not via the draft. Had they traded up to the 1st pick and then drafted Harrison, then your "How does anyone not get this" would make sense.

The Roster Rules do not address how someone "enters the league". I agree that the intent of the rules were probably to treat Jack as "acquired via the draft" but they are very poorly written.

With continued expansion, is there an opportunity to start an MLS II that combined with MLS could create a closed pro/rel system.
Have brought it up before but it didn't spark conversation so I figured it's an oft-heard, nascent idea.

Eta - sorry, I forgot what thread this was in. Absolutely a valid question.

I think there's a possibility. Geographically, the US seems to be set up best for a pro-rel system. But demand-wise we are still many years away.

ETA: I just read Christopher Jee Christopher Jee ETA and realize what this is posed for.

Where does the Soccer Don think MLS will be in 5, 10, 20 years? In terms of attendance, salary cap, relative level of league, TV deals or whatever else. What about compared to other American sports?

How long before he thinks America's top youth players will be able to stay in the country without happening their careers?

What does he think about fan ownership?

What does he think is unique and special about American soccer culture?

How many games does he watch a week and how does he choose?

What position does / did he play?

Does he see salary cap rules becoming more or less complex over time?

Could he see MLS merging with NWSL or having a women's league?
