NYCFC Sponsorship Thread

I looked at the website and it is a system designed to develop first touch, and one of the spokesperson was Zardes? I haven't followed the galaxy too closely but I know when he was with the national team his first touch is something people hated about him. Is he better now, does the system work? and can it help some of our guys (shelton) for real?

How ironic is that?

"As part of the partnership, Bob’s will help fans digitally engage with the Club they love by sponsoring a fan-favorite social media series, now called the “NYCFC Play of the Month Presented by Bob’s Discount Furniture.” Bob’s will also receive stadium assets for all locally broadcast regular season home matches and have a presence on the Club’s website and digital newsletter. NYCFC adds to Bob’s robust list of professional team official sponsorships."

Plays of the Month used to be Sabra, now it's Bob's.

Stadium assets for locally broadcast games means the video board on the bench sideline.

This is an odd one. It looks like we are sponsoring a Formula E team. Techeetah, a Chinese team owned by China Media Capital, who owns a 15% stake in CFG. So this is basically cynergy and we probably aren't paying for the logos and placement.

It's probably *only* because of the inaugural race in Brooklyn. Not sure if people will notice the branding with the placement on the horizontal surface, but it will get some notice from spectators of a non-big 3 sporting event.

Just saw an advertisement with NYCFC (Khiry Shelton and Jack Harrison had speaking roles, we also saw Mikey Lopez) for Fidelis Care. Saw it on FOX, big FOX.

Because the All Star Game went to extra innings, this must have gotten a lot of eyeballs in the NY market.

Is Formula E related at all to F1 racing? or is it something totally different?

It's inspired by F1 but not related to it. The idea of Formula E more than anything act as a demonstration of what all-electric engines are capable of, though it's sorely lacking in the sheer spectacle of regular F1 and it's got a long way to go before it becomes a mainstream event. A lot of the drivers there are retired (or dropped) former-F1 drivers though.

Shame we couldn't get sponsorship on an actual F1 car, though, what with Mansour personally owning a 13% stake in Ferrari and all.

Saw this too. Good stuff.

I did little research on it...and I read that the tracks of these races are alot shorter? Apparenetly because they batteries these cars run on will run out very quickly in a regular F1 size track.

Think about it this way, 1 kilogram is equal to 1 liter (of water but lets keep it simple). And a real F1 car can burn no more than 105kg per race, and they're typically coming in with about 5 gallons left due to fuel testing rules. And believe it or not F1 gas is pretty much the same stuff you're going to be putting in your car, just you know extremely tightly controlled and regulated to make sure no one gets any bright ideas for some extra performance.

So in the course of about the 90 minutes to two hours it takes an F1 car to win a race they're going to suck down about 100 liters of fuel. Thats about 26.4 gallons. In terms of energy density a gallon of gas has about 100 times the energy density, by weight and volume of a lithium ion battery, and 500x the density of a lead acid battery.

Your standard road car is going to have a thermal efficiency of about 15%, an F1 car on the other hand is the pinnacle of the internal combustion engine and is going to have a thermal efficiency of around 45%. Your average electric car is going to have an efficiency in the 90 to 95% range, but its fueled by power plants that have a thermal efficiency of about 30% ish.

So we have next year's formula E battery at 54 kWhr, which incidentally will allow Formula E to do away with the mid race car swap out. And drivers are allowed 200 kWhr used for the entirety of the race; the energy recovery technology on these cars is just this side of the magic/sufficiently advanced technology divide. We'll be generous and say that Formula E has 100% efficient power usage for their cars.

So gasoline has about 46.4MJ of energy per kilogram for a total effective expenditure of 2088 mega joules of energy at 100% efficiency from gasoline during a race. (Note I'm not including the KERS system into my calculations because I'm trying to keep this simple.)

And this is why SI units are amazing.

1 Megajoule = .28 kWhr

So 2088 Megajoules = 580 kWhr of energy.

Long story short a Formula E car has about 34.5% of the energy budget of an F1 car that is not running KERS.

The answer to your question is that yes Formula E races are shorter, they are also much slower than F1 races as well. Here's a handy graphic that helps explain.

Sorry for the lack of response earlier. JGarrettLieb JGarrettLieb has just done an amazing response of detailing the differences between F1 and FE so I won't retread that ground. What I will say is that, to date (and FE is only in its 3rd season) FE has only ever raced around street circuits and specially created tracks going around dockyards and aerodromes etc. They've never had actual race tracks to go around, and so the tracks they use are consequently constrictive not to mention they feature high levels of 90/180 degree corners which have the effect of forcing the cars into single file far too often. That said, when all the cars are entirely power-matched then the actual amount of racing is always going to be inhibited.

In short, FE has a long way to go before it becomes a mainstream racing series.

On the plus side, they're going to start their Roborace, with entirely AI-controlled cars, soon so that should be hilarious.

Looks like it was Khiry and Jack for the English version, and Mikey and Mata en español.
