Nycfc V Dallas Postmatch

Look who missed the clearance when the Olimpico was scored. Josh isn't blameless but he probably thought the ball was going to be cleared until his teammate decided he didn't want his hair messed up.

Look at where Tesho gets the ball and guess whose position that is.

One of these days, when I'm not feeling lazy, I'll compile goals that are directly to blame on a Kreis favorite and you'll see why I bitch and moan so much about the same people.
Good eye on the first one, but to be fair Grabovoy (whom I presume to be the object of your ire) was playing right mid on the second (Angelino and him were swapping wings throughout the game). Angelino himself was high up the pitch with Villa on a break if I remember correctly, which is somewhat justified too. If I were to pick out "remediation" items (no blame culture here), I'd say that Michel should have been pressed more so he didn't have time to get his head up, and Hernandez has to get closer to Akindele to at least make it a difficult shot.

I understand what your saying but with the whole 1.0/3.0 thing not sure if that entirely fits what went wrong. Having to make a fair chunk of the squad from the expansion draft is a hard thing to overcome. I'm not sure maybe 3 or I'd say 2 (I think it's very unfair to lump Villa who is a few years younger, been here all year, and made major offensive contributions) in with the other two who came mid season and haven't done much. Though I'll admit as a massive Marseille fan seeing how Gignac has 6 goals in 6 matches for Tigres I really wish we could have got him instead of one the other two. Comparable to Giovinco IMO in age and being a sort of B /B plus Euro international in his prime instead of an A plus guy on the decline.

I'll also add this: some people here have said this from the very beginning and some of us buried our heads in the sand but the fact is that this club is so MLS 1.0 right now with our 3 old DP's. CFG has really hamstrung us going forward with their "glamour" marketing signings. Unless something drastic happens this offseason I don't see us being significantly better next year.

Oh and another game in the books yet my signature stat remains accurate.

Not sure how the DPs are limiting long term ambitions. Maybe by not signing younger players? The truth is that it takes time to develop talent, and signing veterans at high prices is a good way to offset that in the short term.

You can't put that first one on Grabavoy for not clearing. He clearly makes a good effort on a ball he wasn't very close to. That goal is on Saunders 100%, and he has accepted that publicly.

Come on, we have 3 DP slots and 2 of them are filled with 36/37 yr olds with multiple years left on their contracts who are so clearly underperforming and aren't getting any younger. It's undeniable that CFG chose marketable DPs over guys that could actually carry this team the way DPs should. And I agree with Davo15 Davo15 that Villa should be excluded from this discussion because (a) he's younger and (b) he's actually played well this season. Not only did we have to play half the season with 1 DP now we are forced to play the other 2 who simply aren't cutting it and don't really fit together in midfield anyway.

I get that, but Lampard's contract is done after next season, so it's hardly long term, and I suspect we will get a lot more out of him in 2016. Pirlo is two more years, but he's been very good.

I don't have a problem with the strategy of signing a couple of older guys that can bring immediate results while we wait for the younger core to form. The problem has been execution - i.e. getting pieces that might not necessarily fit and the whole Lampard fiasco. Let's see how it plays next year.

This is true in our case. I think David Villa was a good selection, but I don't think Lampard and Pirlo fit into our roster well. Sometimes I have to remind myself that these two are proven footballers with years of experience. The problem with these two is that at their age and condition, they need a specific supporting roster for their abilities to shine. They don't have that here and so they are struggling. But let's not fool ourselves! Lampard's and Pirlo's performance is NOT the sole reason we haven't done better.

Gravaboy and Wingert don't impress me at all. Sure, they are capable of making plays, and occasional they do, but they also make mistakes and sometimes just lack in effort. Plus I think their experience and age should have yielded a better performance result. At 32 & 33, I just don't believe they are going to get any better and help us in the future. RJ Allen and Jacobson don't really impress either. I saw as many missed opportunities as plays made. But these two aren't over the hill yet so maybe they can improve.

Someone mentioned we looked better in the second half. We did. We moved the ball faster and applied a little more pressure. Mix, Poku, & Mullins just made the pace of the game a little more livelier for us. These guys have all contributed goals for us, and they are young with plenty to learn and improve on. T-Mac is in the same category although he didn't play. We need more homegrown talent like these guys to grow with this club. Would love to keep Angelino and Facey but you can't just count on them being around too long.

Saunders makes saves, but makes too many mistakes. He's a great guy, especially with the fans, and I respect him and the effort he's made. We just need better from our main GK.

Mix was better than Pirlo and Lampard combined. Pirlo looked good when he stepped on to the ball and drove forward past players, but I get the impression that isn't how he likes to play, preferring to sit back and play worldly passes or knock it off to the defenders, so if he's going to do that, he needs support in the midfield (Mix could do this pretty well actually).

Lampard in theory could do that role too, but in the games he's played so far he's just been so.... underwhelming. If any other players had put in his level of performance, we wouldn't expect to see them back in the lineup any time soon.

The pitch "invasion" was fantastic because, from where I was sitting, it looked like two 12 year old kids. Not sure I've ever seen that.

I like the idea of A pitch invasion at Yankee Stadium too. YEEEAAAH It will lighten up the mood and at least give us something to laugh about since we lately have not had much cause or reason to celebrate and I bet it will be something most of us will always remember and find amusing.
I wonder if that may be possible for anyone to accomplish since from what I have observe security at YS sometimes act the like Nazi police.
