With all the effort that MLS, etc. has been putting into creating (forcing?) rivalries, last nights TFC match was EXACTLY how they are supposed to form....... It had it all:
  • chippiness, questionable play and hard fouls
  • ALOT of whining/arguing/frustration with the officials on TFCs part (mostly Gio & Perquis)
  • fights between players after the match
  • coaches (vanney) bitching about the officials/hard play and laying down the gauntlet for the next match
  • underdog beating up on the supposed favorite
I am REALLY looking forward to the July 12 rematch.... Going to be some fireworks!!!:mad::mad:

And an Italy vs Italy element coming soon. :)

I really liked the shot Villa sent across Giovinco's bow late in the game. :D

I don't think it was personal but more of a "We want this more than you" moment. Old man Villa outworking the young Giovinco.

I wouldn't be surprised if this become almost as big of a game every year as the "Hudson River Derby."

I hope this does in fact become the case.

There's going to be a red card given on July 12. I don't know which team or which player, but with a different ref, and MLS telling him to watch the fouls closely after yesterday, something bad is going to happen.

I hope and doubt it will ever be as big as the Derby. There's inner city bragging rights with the Derby, where as against TFC they arent even in the US. I hope it does become a rivalry but not as big as the Derby.

Doubt itll be a rivalry. What creates rivalries is regional battles within a division or city, as well as frequent meetings in big games.

Philly v NY (insert teams), Boston v NY (insert teams), NY v NY (insert teams)

And to be more specific...think 90s basketball...Knicks v Pacers or Knicks v Miami...because they were meeting in the playoffs so often.

Unless we start meeting Toronto in the playoffs and the US Open Cup, or the Champions League a few competitions in a row...dont expect a rivalry just because of one chippy game. Chippy games happen all the time with teams that are not rivals.

Gotta give it to Villa. The guy plays hard and it shows he truly wants to win and cares a lot. Look at the celebrations on the goals he scores and that of his teammates. He is genuinely thrilled. The opposite of this was Henry. Henry tried but I watched every single game of his with Redbull and even though you can't even say Henry quit, he did give his all, you always get the impression that he would rather be somewhere else. He never celebrated that much his goals or his teammates goals, and his total attitude was just awful, thats just the way he came across on TV. Villa on the other hand, I love him for this team and I can't wait until the reinforcements come and he is able to receive some good balls from Lampard and Pirlo. He deserves it.

Perquis v. Jacobson Round 2?

I have watched a lot of TFC games this year and Pequis always and I mean always, every game gets into it with someone from the opposite team. Yes Jacobson's elbow was very cheap but Perquis probably deserved it.

Perquis was grabbing Jacobson's junk. I would except something like that from someone on Montreal, you know how the French are.

Don garber: we need a rivalry for our new crown jewel, Any ideas?

Board members: hub bub hub bub rassle frassle frassle

Don garber: quiet QUIET! Here's what we are going to do, bring in Perquis.

Perquis: oui, jefe?

Don: I want you to grab a man's penis.

Perquis: but but but

Don: its for the good of the game! How can we be a destination league unless you grab penis?

Perquis: OK I will do it.

Everyone: cheering, hoists cp scouse on their shoulders.

You mean interstate bragging rights. Let's never forget they are not NY. They are from the foul smelling side of the Hudson.

Totally disagree. Henry and Villa both have more competitive fire power than we will ever know. They both bust(ed) their asses on the field. They both get/got frustrated with losing and showed that frustration perhaps too much on the field. And they both want(ed) to be there. Some players (Villa) show their excitement with smiles and celebration. Some (Henry) show it with badass cool when any normal person would be grinning ear to ear. That's just a personality difference.

As for NYC I'm pretty damn happy to have Villa. But if we had Henry at 33 years old I'd be damn happy with that too. (And I bet you would as well.)
