Official: Maximiliano Moralez signs as 3rd DP

Three year deal is a big vote of confidence/gamble on a player who turns 30 this month. Never seen him play, so I'll reserve judgment, but unless I'm missing something here the front office clearly sees him as being a cornerstone of the team through (and potentially beyond) the Villa years.

Villa was 33 when he first kicked the ball for us. This sounds like us getting someone in the prime of their career and using them for that period. From about 27-28 to 31-33 tends to be the prime of a players career, barring injury.

While I'd like to see a bigger name, I look at this as a pretty good signing. And a sign that the league is moving in the right direction.

I don't mind the 3-year deal at all. Still hopeful that it's sub-$1 million so we can use TAM on it though when necessary. We probably won't know this until the Players' Union releases salaries, which has happened anytime between April and July in the past few years.

Also of interest - Reyna says they will play him behind the striker. That means attacking mid, which also means just two midfield spots to go around between Pirlo, Ring, and Herrera. LW is still an open competition.

TMac was constantly swinging inside & under Villa from the LW position. I assume that was by design and not freelancing - if so, that's essentially what is described for Maxi.

I don't think behind the striker means he won't nominally be on the wing. The big issue with our wing play now is that we don't have anyone that does a damn thing to help the midfield or the striker. They just stand around until someone plays a long ball or it's passed to them when they are stuck right between a defender or two and the touchline (more Khiry than Jack, but Jack isn't exactly giving any defenders a headache with his movement).

I agree, and that's where I would pencil him in. We shall see.

Beaten by my own insistence on over-explaining.

Maybe we needed a 3 year deal to wait for him to hit his growth spurt...
In the video above they flash a photo of him and Giovinco for a few seconds. They found one that makes it look like he's 3-4 inches taller than Giovinco.

Also, the video is nice and all, but I won't feel like I really know the guy until he answers the duck sized horses/horse sized duck question.
