Official: Maximiliano Moralez signs as 3rd DP

The DPs you named were not exactly superstar names. Yet they came in and performed waaaay above expectations - like MLS first team level. Expecting us to do that with any/every DP signing is unrealistic. How many DPs were signed in MLS last year that didn't perform at the Valeri/Piatti level? Sometimes these work out. Sometimes less so. Requiring every signing to light your world on fire is unrealistic expectations.

I understand they weren't dynamite DPs coming in. But they've been great here. I'm hoping this guy performs to their level.

Unlike that sort of weird puff piece, this is actually some more interesting insight. Tom Marshall is a pretty good source for info on Liga MX from my experience, though I admit it is not a league I follow closely.

Puff piece in the extreme. And yeah, I don't know who the hell Ariel Judas is, or if that's even a real person because it sounds so made up. But after reading it, I'm fairly certain it's a pen-name for FootyLovin FootyLovin

I think you just described a mediocre side. I think we were all using mediocre in the American way, not the English way, where it is the nice way of saying you fucking suck.

by those standards everyone in MLS is mediocre except the two finalists

Fine. Spurs and Moussa Sissoko.
I was kidding about the fu. But I actually don't think those were panic buys so much as just bad and that Suarez money burning a hole in Brendan's pocket.

That said, we did make some buys that have turned out pretty well that window. You pretty much picked the 2 busts.

I didn't include this in my prior post because I thought it was getting too lengthy, but I did find an article where he gives a first person account of why. (milenio, via google translate). Basically, that he had fulfilled his dreams in Serie A and was up for helping Leon try to be a title contender. But, again, given that he had considered going to the Saudi PL at age 29 the year before, make of that what you will.

I'm relying on admittedly crappy translations, so feel free to draw on the original source, but some of the comments coming out of Racing (including from one of their VP's) was that he might like to "retire" with them, which contemplates a different kind of motivation for reacquiring him than what you might expect from an MLS side acquiring a DP. (amLeon, via google translate).

perhaps with racing...since like i said its their homegrown...but not with boca. and yes alot of teams want to have their product to come "home" and retire with them even if they are 30, maybe get 5/6 years out of him

Why would you draw the line there? I mean, we were pretty mediocre and did alright in the final table. Dallas got runnoft the playoffs, too. And they were definitely good.

Something is getting lost in translation here.

soooo the whole league is mediocre ?

dallas was missing their main playmaker thats why they did bad.

i mean getting player from juventus or bayern bench wont automatically mean were are getting the best player in that position for this league...or better yet...those players may not want to come at all to MLS

Something is still not being communicated clearly. K Kjbert and I both called Leon mediocre. You disputed it by pointing out that they are consistently middle of the table in LigaMX. That fact only supports and is the only support needed to justify the statement that they are a mediocre LigaMX team.

As for the other stuff, okay. Not sure anyone was arguing otherwise.

I think maybe you're reading some sort of league comparison into this where none was intended. If I'm still not being clear, maybe we can sort it out over PM or something. No insults were intended to any league or team by anyone so far as I can tell, so I apologize if something I said could be interpreted that way.

Who are you and what did you do with our off-color poster?

middle table and still making playoff appearances ...if that mediocre fine...we all know similar teams are middle of the pack and win MLS cups here...and anywhere playoffs are done.

my deal is everyone is killing the guy before he has even steps in the field....i mean did we all think lampard and pirlo would make us title contenders right away even though they came from man city and juventus?

wether he came from leon or atalanta i dont think it would of made a difference, people just not impressed with the guy at all, and saying it should of been someone else.

time will tell....but im not being depressed of the 2017 season...i got what i wanted....team got younger.

Winning a cup from the middle of the pack does not make one a great team - just a team that hit a hot streak at the right time.

Yes, when Pirlo and Lampard were signed, I felt our team would be title contenders - I then had to walk it back in my head when I remembered what Kreis had littered the roster with to back them up.

Aside from Boca possibly/probably not having the money to pay what Leon wanted, I don't think he would have been starting or even necessarily getting regular minutes at Boca, from what I read.

I think there is a false dichotomy: it's not either a) a superstar name (Villa, Pirlo, Lampard), or b) a world renowned club (Villarreal, Roma or Liverpool, as someone else commented). I wasn't really familiar with Lodeiro before he came to MLS either, but when the rumors were announced, there weren't as many question marks around him as with Maxi (i.e. why was he struggling to get minutes instead of really shining at a mid-table Liga MX club? what's up with his injury history? why were the Leon managers favoring other players over him?)

edit: I guess what I am trying to say is, Lodeiro and Giovinco weren't putting up the same kind of numbers at their former clubs. That's more understandable with those clubs/leagues. But they are really high quality players for MLS. I think the question about Maxi is not only why he wasn't putting up better numbers at Leon, but why he wasn't even getting regular minutes. It's not like Leon had a load of other high quality talent ahead of him. And maybe it was a series of unfortunate circumstances (whatever was going on with the multiple management changes, compounded by his injury history).

I really hope he works out at NYCFC. I'm just a not excited by the signing right now. Even though I would potentially be very excited about this kind of signing as opposed to the two categories I outlined above

i dont follow boca so i cannot answer this .....this was all from a quick research i did on twitter

as for second part...i dont know torrente that well so i dont know why he fell out of favor....keep in mind liga mx coaches can get sacked after 3-5 bad games. sometimes coaches just wont change players at all or not even include them in 18...( like mix) in fear of getting fired ...i havent watched leon this season....but team is doing bad now. maybe maxi had beef with coach and thats why he never played and decided to get out. i dont know

we all got over lampardgate....i think we can get over this as well. i do have a positive outlook with the attack at least of the team....now defenders or DM is another matter.

If MLS Fantasy is any indicator, he's being priced at $9.0

$11: Lodeiro
$10: Díaz, Piatti, Kljestan, Kaká, Valeri, Feilhaber
$9.5: Higuaín, Meram, Nguyen, Alonso, Molino
$9: McCarty, Finlay, Morales, Alessandrini, Pirlo, Morález, Felipe, Blanco, Rusnak, Bradley, Cooper, Almiron
I wonder what Lodeiro, Diaz, Piatti, Valeri were priced at after they signed but before they played their first MLS game.

The hate/pessimism on these boards for Maxi has been remarkable. You want lesser known quantities, they are going to come with some uncertainty. I can't wait to see him lace up. COYBIB!

I wonder if eventually a Norwegian team, or whichever international team that signs Mix to a deal, their fan forums will ask the same questions we're asking about Maxi:

He must be talented because he featured prominently for United States but:

1. Why was he benched for 3 seasons?
2. Why did a player name Mikey Lopez start over him?

I'm going to watch Maxi play in about 4 or 5 matches or so for NYCFC first and then I'm going to tell everybody here what I feel about this signing.

I might be tempted to tell everybody what I feel about him after one match but, nope, not gon do it .

I think this is an incredibly fair and lucid post.

You obviously don't belong here.
