NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

It looks like we have 2 kids from affiliate clubs that got called up to the U-15 camp in England.

Defender - Tyler Shaver - Beachside SC
Forward - Will Sands - New York Soccer Club

Side Note - The son of the great Liberian national George Weah and 1995 world player of the year in on the team. His kid is part of the PSG youth team but was apart of BW Gottschee (our affiliate) and then NJ Red Bulls. Hopefully we can poach him into our team. He lives in Rosedale NY.

It's going to be a few years but this is just going to be so key to our team. The Galaxy are the model to follow and with our ownership/money we won't stop bringing in big names. When we can supplement our DP's with quality homegrown talent is when we'll be a force in this league.

So I was looking at BW Gottschee via search and they posted the USBNT U-14 roster that was just named and they had a kid... he's not on our academy roster...

Matteo Ritaccio (BW Gottschee; Westbury, N.Y.)

1. Holy crap these kids were born after Y2K.

2. Eder Mosquera reminds me of the Soul Glo guy:

3. As SayWhat44 SayWhat44 pointed out, Matteo Ritaccio (BW Gottschee; Westbury, N.Y.) made the USBNT U-14 from our affiliate, but isn't on our academy roster. However, Will Citron (NYCFC; Eastchester, N.Y.) is on both squads. Wonder what the evaluation is on Ritaccio and why he didn't make the academy. It could be a lot of things. We don't really know too much what the NYCFC u-14 team is being utilised for - whether they are playing many events competitively, and if they are, whether they are just competing locally or they're flying around the country or even further to enter prestige events. It could be that his parents simply think he has enough on his plate right now playing for Gottschee and the national u-14 team. It could be that he turned down the opportunity for his own reasons. At age 13, I'm not sure he's at the level yet where we should be treating him like he's a 20-year old prospect who should be thoroughly committed to every possibility, and whom the club should have a 50-page dossier on. Sufficed to say that there's probably a good reason, but there's also still plenty of time to recruit him yet.

On 10/10, anyone want to watch these guys play in Greenwich against the New York Soccer Club?

Well he could also have plans to go to Florida to the IMG Academy which he would do so pretty soon since he will probably be a Freshman in high school this year.

They're in the USSDA U13-14 league and will be playing all over the NE this fall and next spring. http://ussda.demosphere.com/teams/77612082/78368965-77612171/TEAM.html#SCHED

But you are right. Plenty of things going on in a 13 year old's life that would influence this stuff.

Also important to note that players only need to play for our academy team for one year to count as homegrown.

Ah yeah. I forgot about the USSDA thing.

I was under the impression that in fact they only had to play for one of our affiliates for the year, not even necessarily our actual academy team, but yeah, that's a factor. It also helps that the exclusivity stuff means he can't really be poached by other clubs, not for a while yet anyway.
