NYCFC Academy - General Discussion

With Dome in charge, I feel quite confident we see Haak signing for the first team next season, and some loan spells for our youngens.

Apropos of nothing, the boy and I are back from Madrid. Beat a first division club from Argentina (Argentinos Juniors) and a local team from Madrid (Alcobendas Levitt), drew the mighty Krasnador from Russian premier league 0-0 (they had at least four 6-footers on a U14 team, lost to Atleti 3-0 (a heroic result) had narrow 1-0 defeats to Stabaek (Bob Bradley was not there) and IFK Lidingo (many, many large Swedes) and when the boys were mentally and physically spent got blown out by a club team from Montreal (True North Soccer).

The starters walked out for each game to the Champions League music and I've attached a picture of my son (#9) getting what he described as the hardest high fives of his entire life from the Atleti boys...

Tenorio: MLS contemplating removing homegrown territories, allowing teams to scout in each others’ regions

Major League Soccer is considering eliminating homegrown academy territories, according to multiple team technical directors, a move some believe could significantly improve the country’s domestic player pool. The technical directors cautioned there is still plenty left to decide regarding how such a change would occur—most believe there would still be some sort of protections in place for MLS teams within their markets—but they are confident that the change will occur in the near future.

“It will happen,” one technical director said.

Under current rules, MLS teams are prohibited from looking for youth players in territories that belong to other MLS teams. The change would likely not be introduced until at least the latter half of 2019, when the 2019-20 development academy season begins, or perhaps not until the start of the 2020 MLS season. Any new regulations still have to go through multiple layers of approval, from the meetings of the clubs’ chief soccer officers (one of which is currently taking place in New York) to the product strategy committee made up of a small group of owners to a final vote by the MLS board of directors.

If this passes, CFG is going to invest massive funds in American scouting.

Just like they’ve spent all that money on coaching hires, transfer fees and DP salaries?
I know not a whole ton has been spent on transfer fees, but wasn't Kreis and then PV two of the highest paid coaches in MLS? And aren't we like one of the top 5 teams in DP salaries over the last 4 years? (I know the DP salaries spent probably wasn't best spent)

Not sure about JK and PV. But we had the 2nd highest paid DPs after Toronto to start (once we signed Pirlo). But since, we’ve gone cheap with Maxi & Medina. Seems it’s been a downward curve ever since year 1. Kind of like our attendance.

Well, to be fair, Maxi is the 11th highest paid player in the league ($3.96 off of 10th).

ETA: The above was based on base salary, for total compensation, he is 16th (again, $3.96 off of 15th). With Maxi, we've definitely gone cheaper than where we were, but I'm not sure I'd say we went cheap.

Kreis was the highest paid at the time. Then Vieira was the highest paid at the time. Who know what they're spending on Dome?
