Official NYCFC Forums League - RENEWED!

That's a really good article, thanks.

Two interesting points. The fact that every roster turns over every week means that accumulating a lot of value on the roster over time is crucial. Remember that player values increase if they perform well. This means that bench players really do matter. If a guy sits on the bench but plays well, and his value increases, that means more money for you to spend in future weeks.

The other, related, point is that there is less money to spread around the roster these days. That means you need to be more clever about picking the $8-9 million guys since you will have more of them on the team.

I tried doing this in 2015. Instead of putting two or three 4.0 mm players on my bench, I tried to pick the best in the $4.5-$6.0 range. It reduced my budget to load up on the most expensive players, but I figured it could pay off over the course of the season when I sold the bench jockeys for more money. The problem is that no matter how carefully or skillfully you pick your low-cost players, and I'm sure someone could have done better than I did, they are prone to rotation and coach experimentation, and coming off the bench. Players who come off the bench IRL kill your roster value in fantasy, because at least 50% of the time they earn exactly 1 point, and lose roster value. Better they should have not played at all. After suffering through this for a couple of months I gave up on it and embraced the stability of $4.0.

I really shouldn't share this stuff and let you all learn from painful experience but it's just my nature to give.
