Does everyone else put a disproportionate amount of weight on a rumored player's age as I do? It feels so backwards to go after 35+ year olds like Lampard, who is more of a "one-player-away" type addition to get you over the competitive edge. Given that we don't have a team to build on, signing an older player looks worse.

I'd rather have okay players that will be around 4 or more years than great (or formerly great) player that we will be happy to have play 2 years before retiring.

It's not disproportionate. I don't think a midfielder that old can play the way we need him to in MLS. They need to cover more ground than an old guy can. We can't really afford more than 1 MF who is a one way player, and that needs to be a 10.

Please let this happen. Even if we don't get Bradley, I'd rather have an open DP slot to fill rather than FF.

lol I am guessing FF stands for fat Frank? Man, I feel the same. Im just not a fan of his, maybe if he does come here he can prove me wrong. The Bradley swap seems like a dream for now...but it is possible. Give them the rights to frank Lampard, and our 1st draft pick for Bradley.

Your guess is correct. I don't care for him personally, but I particularly don't care for him for NYCFC and what I expect from our players on the pitch. If we had unlimited cap space, sure, sign him up to be a role player. But we don't have that luxury. Let him go to TFC and play for his fellow countryman.

If they manage to pull that off, I'd be giddy. I actually sort of wondered aloud to some people when Bradley signed there if the league had something like that in mind. It woudn't shock me at all if getting MB to NYC was a part of the plan all along, or at least one of the paths in The Don's mind. I have no information backing this other than the curious history he has of doing everything he can to promote the league. MB is worth so much more to the entire league in NYC than TFC. At TFC, he has no real impact on ratings or even attendance. That would definitely not be the case here.

I'm still not quite sure why people think that Lampard would agree to sign on with NYCFC purely so that we could trade him away a few days later. That part of the story just makes no sense to me.

Is Lampard that marketable for NYC? That's the only reason that this signing might make sense.

I don't take the speculation very seriously, but it's pretty simple. First of all, Lampard would never sign for City. He would sign directly with Toronto as a DP, probably for more money than City was offering. Toronto would then have 4 DP's, and need to unload one under the current rules. So City could trade something like our first round SuperDraft pick for Bradley to clear the roster space, and maybe do something like drop their offer to Lampard as an off-the-record condition to help Toronto sign Lamps for cheaper.

So it's more about Toronto swooping in and stealing Lampard, but then needing to offload a DP. Why they would do that, I don't know (maybe there's pressure from Garber to get a USMNT to New York for marketing purposes?) But it would be nice for us.

Who knows, maybe the Lampard announcement is taking so long because he's deciding between $X million from City and $X+Y million from Toronto right now, and the trade for Bradley is already worked out if he chooses Toronto. I can dream.

Is there that many Chelsea fans in NYC who will come see 35 year old Lampard play in MC blue? I doubt it, at least notafter the first game.

So can you guys help me? What USA players outside of MLS could NYCFC sign that wouldn't require a DP slot or USMNT allocation? Anyone?

I believe Julio Cesar is a DP and will be gone after the World Cup?

I don't think the Lampard thing has anything to do with MLS. Toronto has deep pockets and once they found out he was available, they made a move for him.

I believe QPR was paying part of Julio Cesar's salary for some reason so he wasn't a DP
Cesar is only on loan from QPR who also agreed to pay for the majority of his wage, hence his salary is within the range of a non-DP player and since there is no transfer fee he also does not qualify for DP status.

As for non-DP, non-USMNT players abroad here is my starting list (correct or add if you want):

-Alfredo Morales, CDM, FC Ingolstadt 04.
-Ariyibi, Gboly, FW, Tranmere Rovers
-Bernabé Magaña, GK, Pumas
-Justin Moose, MF, SJK
-Villyan Bijev, FW, Slavia Sofia
-Sean Cunningham, CB, Free Agent?
-Shawn Parker, FW, FC Augsburg
-Joey Spivack, FW, IBV
-Jordan Seabrook, MF, VPS
-Gabriel Farfan, LB, Chiapas
-Charlie Campbell, FW, Ljungskile SK
-Brandon McDonald, CB, Ljungskile SK
-David Yelldell, GK, Bayer Leverkusen
-Bobby Wood, FW, 1860 Munich
-Jeremiah White, MF, Free Agent/retired?
-Zak Whitbread, FW, Derby
-Bobby Warshaw, CM, GAIS
-Zarek Valentin, CB, Bodø/Glimt
-Marcus Tracy, FW, Free Agent
-Eugene Starikov, FW, Zenit

.... etc.....

The reason the move is taking so long is probably because after the WC, players whose club seasons ended just before get a mandated 3 weeks holiday, so he simply isn't around to finalise the contract.

ALFREDO MORALES
Longest video I've found of him playing. And it's like 4 years old.

GBOLY ARIYIBI

JUSTIN MOOSE

JOEY SPIVACK
