That was fantastic...people called the police. Thanks for dropping 1960s sports trivia knowledge.
Sure. Slightly before my time in that I was 6 when it happened and unaware of it at the time but it remained a cultural touchstone for a couple of decades. And made worse because there was no way to find out what happened. No ESPN, no internet, no Sports Phone (another reference you might need to look up "Get all the sports news instantly, dial 976-1313"), no all-sports radio. Your best option to find out who won was to put on all news radio and wait for a sports update every 30 minutes. Highlights consisted of 1-3 minutes, for all sports combined, near the end of the local 11pm news broadcast. You can almost understand why some people called the cops.

Most of my "obscure" knowledge ("It's a little known fact" to quote Cliffy) is just due to age. The Heidi reference was once universally known but it faded with time.
I was going to make reference to that last night, but I didn't think anyone would know what the hell I was talking about. I won't say I remember it like it was yesterday, but I do recall watching it when it happened.

My dad would frequently be watching his "junky giants" and mid way through the game say "just put on heidi already!" Then drunkenly tell me a much louder version of the wiki page ... thanks for the memories!

I got to the Stadium at my usual 5 to the hour tonight. Usually I walk straight up to gate 4 and there's no line but tonight there must have been 2,500 between gates 4 and 5. They only had 2 metal detectors in use at gate 5, another 2 were reserved for VIPs or something, and half the turnstiles were closed. I eventually got in at 5:25. I know it's my responsibility for showing up late but the fact is they weren't geared up for a sellout. Kids were crying and people were leaving and going home.

My feelings about last night...

p.s. I actually think this would make a great avatar for Midas Mulligan Midas Mulligan

Idk. We lost 3-1. Bringing our Derby record to 0 - 3. I think I feel ashamed more than anything else. It looks like we played the same formation that we did in Jersey and we got totally outplayed. I mean outplayed like we were once again chasing shadows. We looked tired and foolish. Where was the swagger from playing Montreal, where was the grit from Toronto? We played a week ago, the Redbulls played on Wednesday. We were the ones who looked knackered!

Complaint of the day: red bulls fans allowed in the supporters section
word. I was getting a beer and they were walking around with no fear in their hearts. Of course no one should be scared to walk among us for physically damage, but I was shocked I wasn't even talking trash. When we were in Philly we were treated like leapers.
