Orlando Postmatch

Well, possession doesn't mean what anyone thinks it means, so it's useless to discuss as a marker of domination. It's about the same as number of passes for each team, expressed as a percentage. It's proof Kreis is a moron that he can't tell he was dominated. When they were chasing the game, they couldn't keep the ball, and they couldn't stop us despite us playing with one midfielder tied behind our back.

I wasn't able to watch the game, but how did RJ Allen when he subbed in for White? The only memorable play on the condensed game was Villas last goal where he made the interception and tapped the ball forward to villa to start the break.

Lopez was invisible on the condensed game besides the yellow card, but it probably a good thing. How did the midfield look defensive/pressing wise? Maxi looked great again.

Patrick Vieira on Mikey:
“Mikey had a terrific game,” Vieira said. “It was not easy for him because we came in with a lot of pressure to win this game, but he kept the game really simple, moving the ball from left to right and right to left, and he focused well on his defensive duties."
We going to keep seeing him.

I agree that Miley had a good game. Normally he brings a lot of energy and bite, but also a lot of flailing, trying to hit passes that are too god for him. Here, he pulled a Herrera-the-lesser, kept the defensive bite but had a more realistic set of expectations for his link up with the team. And it worked! if he keeps playing like that I think it could go well.

I don't get all the moaning and wailing about guys like Lopez, RJ, TMac, etc. They aren't regular starters for this year's team, but they are solid as backups - guys who have started and can be relied upon. We should be really happy to have them here. All three of those guys put in good shifts yesterday.

Villa:
I think it's fair to say Mikey helped out a lot today. He had a great game. It's not easy because it's painful because of the injury, he doesn't have minutes and the coach chooses him today and he gave a lot to the team. He's a really good guy. He's always training with intensity. He doesn't care if he plays or doesn't play, he trains always the same. He's a player we need in our roster. I'm so, so happy for him.

You know, I never had any ill feelings towards Orlando. Not with the "forced" rivalry, nor the lack of wins against them. However, between the crass crotch grabbing fan, the idiotic graffiti wall, and Kries' sour grapes comments, yesterday's game cemented my disgust for everything Orlando. They can go fuck themselves.

Loan could be good but I still think he would be better than tommy and camargo
Maybe so. I'm not high on Tommy, so I'd love for that to be the case.

However, if I'm PV, I look down the bench and have a small, young winger or a proven poach merchant, I know where I'm pointing if the game is in question.

And all of the cheap shots by the players. I knew for certain that once Villa was driven to become finger-waving angry by an opponent's cheap shots, he was going to make sure to score an "I can f' with you at will" goal. And yup (with the "I can f' with you at will" assist from Maxi).

I say cautiously that Lopez had a decent game for a 5th MF last night. For me, though, the weight of past performance still looms and he has to show that he has been transformed into a smarter player, not that he will revert back to the jumping bean he's been. I root for him like I do for all the backups, but I also wish we had a better option as a backup.

Yeah, it was pretty much a hatchet job from Orlando. The one on Maxi in the latter part of the game was quite blatant.

We all get there sooner or later.

I felt like you for a while - heck, Orlando is 2 hours from where I grew up.

But during last season's game in New York - the one where they came back from 2-0 down to tie at the death - I had to deal with three absolute morons sitting in my section behaving like jerks the whole time. That was it for me.

Was one of them the guy who screamed out Goalzo, and kept shouting how great the ref was? I wanted to throw him over the ledge and hang him using his scarf. Although I think he was in front of you.

No, they came down in front of the section and jumped around and yelled in a very phony celebration after both goals. Clearly just putting on a show to piss people off.

I was impressed with Mikey last night from a player development stand point. He played within his role, stayed focused the entire game and clearly followed the instructions he was given. I'm sure those could be refuted as simple things but they are things he often struggled with in previous seasons. He even throttled back his tackles a bit following the first yellow. Remember year one with us when he'd get a yellow early in the 1st half only to spend the rest of the game recklessly flying into challenges like he wanted the red.

His athleticism and high work rate make him effective at the high press and was a solid contributor to our ability win back so many balls in the midfield. My only gripe is his how high he holds his trailing leg on slide tackles, he's always going for a scissor tackle and it gets him too many yellows. If he continues to stay within his role and accept the instructions that he's to find Ring or Maxi when it's time to start the offense I think he's a fine back up. In the second half they left him wide open in space so often that it almost felt like JK was trying to tempt him into trying to do more. It was likely more an artifact of players being instructed to stick more tightly to Maxi and Ring but it reminded me of basketball when a team decides a guy can't shoot and they intentionally play off him to get him to shoot.
