Orlando Postmatch

JK's plan was to press and press hard and we broke it easily, you can tell the players are getting very comfortable executing the system. JK even took Kaka and Nocerino off early in the second half in favor of more speed I assumed to help with the press and it did nothing. The Nocerino sub was a bit strange as I thought he was having a decent game.

Kreis subs were "we are losing put more attacking players on" without thinking about team shape, I also thought the Nocerino sub was strange.

But then again, Orlando has one offensive strategy: go wide and cross the ball to Larin. Pathetic (although if Larin doesn't miss the penalty, they get at least one goal).

Yeah that is really all they have. I know he's a shell of his former self but it's sad that a team with Kaka plays so little through the middle. It's also going to be a disaster when Larin leaves for a new club.

The Diamond is an obsolete formation. It gets chewed up by any formation with 5 in the midfield (always an open man to pass to), or a 433 like us because the diamond's mids get pulled completely out of shape with a single pass to the sideline for the outside back or wing. I cannot wait to see Orlando play Atlanta (x3), Dallas (x1), and Toronto (x1, already lost once).

Yeah, I'd say Ring played the 6. Maxi roamed very effectively and Mikey went box to about 10 yards above Orlando's box breaking forward to help with the press but not really on offense. I actually don't recall Mikey ever making an offensive run. It worked well and allowed Maxi to fully join the attack and focus on link up with Villa and the wings while knowing he had solid midfield coverage behind him.

In the second half Orlando tried to key in on Maxi and Ring to disrupt our link up play and a couple of time Callen's responded by bypassing both of them an dribbling the ball through the midfield himself until he was across midfield and close enough to distribute to the forwards himself. Ring dropped in to cover him and Mikey slid over to cover the middle, it worked perfectly.

The last couple of games we have been handling the hard press really well.

Listen - if you have Cyle Larin or Christian Benteke in the middle, you put the ball on his forehead. It's not a bad strategy. I admittedly don't watch a lot of Orlando City - I actually really dislike their franchise - but I got the sense on Sunday that they don't play through Kaka. Silly.

Kreis is so dogmatic. You can glimpse his mindset from his post game comments. He cared more about being disrespected by other coaches than getting dismantled at home. We have a very good possession team, trying to out possess us is a fool's errand. Orlando has the tools to bunker and counter. Larin and Rivas can easily hold up play and allow the team to come upfield on a break. That's the move, but he didn't do it. As we saw when JK was our coach, you need the right pieces for a diamond midfield. Will Johnson is a butcher, not a shuttler, he is nothing but anger on the field, no nuance. Higuita was completely taken out of the game. So if those guys cant get it upfield, Kaka gets 20 touches and the forwards never get the ball. He'll fuck them up like he fucked us up. He'll waste Larin like he wasted Villa.

And we have to realize that Kreis is still being paid $1M by CFG for this year and next year...

That $4M/4 Year Contract was nuts.

In hindsight, bad move. But they wanted to have him build the franchise. Once he lost the DPs, he was done. They had no intention of letting him go until the very end of 2015.

He's still being paid by CFG? I'd have thought that if he took another position in MLS, at best he'd be paid the difference, but not the whole amount, from NYCFC.

It was hilarious being in the stands when they took Kaka off.. All the Orlando fans 'why are they taking him off!?' My parents 'We forgot he was even in the game.' Our midfield shut him down all game. So many times after he got rid of the ball (backwards) he'd look at the forwards and other kids with his hands raised asking where's the help.
Then minutes after being subbed off there's a penalty and Larin misses. Everyone, 'if kaka was still in....' Lol

Love this goal, Ring burst through the middle there knowing where he was going to go the second he got the ball and White committed and made a long run which paid off. Beautiful.

We were talking about performances and they were impressed with Jack and Maxi and then asked about #8 and said he was a great played, agreed lol. We looked so much better it wasn't even funny.
