Philadelphia - Postmatch - Knockout Round

This rule change only applies inside the penalty area. As it says, they decided the triple punishment was too much- PK plus RC plus suspension. So inside the box, DOGSO becomes a YC plus PK unless it’s blatant. Neither incident last night was inside the pen box so regular DOGSO rules apply.
The difference, whether you agree or not, is there were 3 other defenders- behind yes but close to Maxi and they were all faster than him so we was never going to be 1 on 1 with the GK . The Portland foul was isolated with no other defenders in a position to catch up.
I get what you’re saying, but I don’t like playing the “what if” game with the other players behind him but likely faster. At the time of the foul, they weren’t in position to defend and as such should be locked behind the play - we see that all the time with offsides and such. Rules should be interpreted/implemented the same.

BTW kudos to Ofori, who I usually hate. His ultra-cautious passing is not a bad thing if he's coming in as a sub on the 75 minute to see off a result. He's got 100x more mobility than Amagat.

Yup after Ofori came in it was almost comical how PHI couldn’t get the ball forward (except for the contractually obligated Ilsinho dribbling four guys and creating a goal)

But didn’t the philly player hold/push Maxi, and that’s be a deliberate foul that incurs a red? It definitely did not look accidental.

Maxi was in front of the last defender and got pushed, which put him off balance and slowed down and then got impeded again and went down. By the time he went down there were two defenders in the area - but that only happened because he was initially pushed.

However, that first push from behind is the real foul and that is a red.

Anyone have any insight on the goal that was called back?

Maxi was offside (close but definitely off). Another NYCFC player (Isi?) was next to him and in position to play the ball. Maxi took it and that triggered the offside but the linesman kept flag down (per MLS mandate) since it’d be reviewable. Maxi should have left it for teammate as that player had the same opening to drive in on.

One thing that baffles me completely is why is Amagat given minutes in every game. Not that he'd have let the team down during his 10+5 minutes last night, but I just can't see what he brings to the game. This really is Torrent's blind spot.
Amagat is the new Rodney Wallace

We had Taty, Medina, and Berget on the bench (attackers).

Ibeagha and Stuver (defenders, goalkeeper).

Ofori and Amagat (midfielders).

Who are you going to replace Amagat with? Jonathan Lewis? No. You need that extra midfielder.

James Sands. McNamara. Awuah. I'd pick Sands but Dome prefers his boy Amagat.

Maxi could have slid back to the midfield and another forward (Or Lewis if on the bench) could have come on. Amagat coming on was a luxury choice and not a forced change.

I'd pick Sands as well. And Amagat over the other two

Though I'm guessing Dome wanted someone with more of a defensive bite than Maxi, and I think that's fair.

And I don't intend to be knocking Maxi's defensive work, because he does provide a lot there. But he isn't as physical (obviously) and players (especially tired ones) are more likely to pick up a tactical yellow in the midfield, and I think we'd all like to keep Maxi as clean as possible

It’s the little dogs that have the most viscous bites....
