We know the 20 teams. The transfers have already started. We'll know the schedule on June 14.

It's only 74 days until the Premier League season kicks off again.

Surprising amount of transfer talk (and completed moves) for such an early stage. Maybe it will turn out to be a few isolated cases, but there are a number of clubs who the stories are rumouring to be trying to conclude business before their targets have even gone on holiday. I find myself wondering if this is the start of a trend towards actually having 95% of a squad assembled at the first training session of the year, or if there are just a lot of targets available this summer who have to be snapped up early or missed entirely.

    This is HUGE and bad.

NBC is cutting all the overflow channels. Those games will also not be available for free on NBC Live Extra streaming. All those games will be put on new paid streaming only service. So only the big games involving big teams will be available to cable subscribers every week without paying an extra fee, and occasionally even games involving one of the majors will be paid streaming only.

They'll take a hit for this. I doubt enough people sign up to make it more worthwhile than the add stream they currently have.

I pay cable for the rights to watch all the Premier League games on TV or streaming. This is complete bullshit. I am not going to pay $50 for the rights to games not on TV since I am entitled to all the games. Bullshit. Stupid.

This kinda sorta helps cord cutters, who previously couldn't get anything, because the only way to access to NBC Live Extra was to have a cable or satellite subscription. Now they can get some EPL for $50 per year. But they still won't get the biggest games every week. To access all EPL games you have to both have cable and the streaming subscription.

Another interesting twist is how NBC is trying to figure out how to make the overflow channels available only to bars, because the bars hate having to deal with streaming and hooking computers to their flatscreens and they much prefer just turning to a channel on the cable or satellite box. I know some do it, but most would really rather not.

On so many levels NBC is on a "we got a pretty good thing going here, but if we wanted to shoot ourselves in the foot, how would we do that?" kick lately...

Very odd way to do things. First by not offering a 100% package. This requires you to have some cable access and pay for this on top. Why not capture more revenue from people without cable and leave the status quo where it is. Second id wager a beer they do absolutely nothing to the fee they charge for NBCSN. So although it would be great if I could align what I pay with content I actually want, this just seems like a cash grab that's passing more cost to people that want this content and not saving anyone else a dime.

Another point is that this really hurts all the plans for mid-table and lower teams to market and grow a following in the US. There's already enough of a barrier between the top 6 or so and the rest of the league. This just widens and strengthens that gap.

Oh my god, this is so goddamned disappointing. Especially because a lot of those matches on Extra Time are matches I DVRd, and I doubt we'll be able to "save" them to stream later.

Deadspin's article title sums it up.

The top 7 overspend their income to chase UCL. The bottom 7 overspend their income to avoid relegation. The middle 6 have to overspend their income just to tread water.
If the upside to Pro/Rel is avoiding teams like the Revs who never try too hard, the downside is you can never regroup and rebuild either your roster or your finances.

Who cares? It's a hunting and outdoors channel. Those shows come on every sports channel here.

Want to talk about too violent for TV? Mane and Salah running at defenders on the counter. The speed...

People that support top clubs it might not affect them as much but for those that support bottom table clubs that don't get much tv time it definitely will.
I'll pay it if need be. I pay fox for foxsoccerplus and it comes in handy as I usually work during champions league matches. I usually work at least 1 weekend day and always stream at work and if it means I have to pay so be it.
They did one hell of a job on covering the prem and I think it's worth paying. Multi camera angels and a crisp stream every time. The app is great and the website is great for streaming as well. Here's $50, keep it up.
Let's all be honest NBC raised the level and raised the profile of EPL in the US. They likely introduced a lot of people to football as well.
