I feel like all preseason games should be played behind closed doors since people are going to continue to overreact and jump to silly conclusions every year.

I was thinking the same thing. It's just not that important. No one should care about results during preseason. It's about shaking off the rust and evaluating fringe roster players. We just played a team in the middle of their season, of course it's going to look bad.

Just to offer evidence: it’s counterfactual to argue Rod will play RW. He never has. Ucubed has no place in this team.

Where do we finish last season regular season if we don’t take 8 or 10 to figure out Pirlo is ass? Should have been apparent in preseason. It wasn’t. Because of pissing away the opportunities just like this time.

Maybe that's what PV is testing though. We need a new RW. Last year's is gone (miss you Jack). So maybe PV is testing who is gonna to work on that side.

And yes, the Pirlo thing should have been painfully obvious, but Herrera came into preseason late last year, otherwise I think he would have started sooner

Didn't we just sign 3 or 4 wingers, one a DP, and have a valuable trade winger that should be getting time?

And we run out Wallace in a position we know he can't play and Ucubed, who we know can't play any position .

Hes played RW for costa rica. Could be a sign with a competent overlapping fullback that we are looking to play our wingers more to cut inside on both sides. Lewis/Tmac played at LW. Wallace/Medina at RW.

The one thing that is apparent is that PV has no clue who our backup 9 is. Lewis and Medina both played there. I also have no clue what formation up front we were playing the last minutes.

Wallace had a competent fullback for 75 minutes yesterday, and more often than not he saw him making a run towards the wing and instead of feeding him the ball for a cross chose to cut inside towards the clogged areas around the box in order to crash against bodies and lose the ball. It was puzzling for me, and I'm sure for Tinnerholm too. This team just doesn't like to play fast and stretch the field. Maxi too, tends to chose making unnecessary turns with the ball and drift into traffic instead of releasing it quickly to somebody who is making a run.

This. The 30 minutes I was able to watch at work were really frustrating. Not because I took this game so seriously despite it being a preseason. It was frustrating for the reason you mentioned. More often than not they make the negative pass rather than rewarding a run. Maxi way too often pulls the ball back and goes back to a defender. If the ball does make it out to the wing it’s usually dead. The player receives it flat footed and there’s no movement and again goes backwards.
We’ll see where we are at the end of the month. I’d like to see the first 45 of each game to be our true XI or something close to it. Use the substitutions to test your fringe players. This team looks a lot different than last year and needs time to gel. Not going to happen if tmac is starting and captain in these games, unless PV sees him as a starter.

I just feel like the wings are where we have the most question for the starting XI, so it makes sense to me that it was one of the few positions that PV tinkered with for this game. You said yourself you aren't sure about Medina yet.

I agree that it didn't go well. And I hope TMac is playing his way out of the 18- doubtful, but I can dream. But preseason is the place to experiment

I would think Berget was signed to fill the role of backup 9, but he doesn't seem fit yet

I feel a lot of that is chemistry. Wallace usually combines really well with Mata and Sweat on the left side. It was nice to see Tinnerholm out their for an extended time. You can tell by his touch and his long passing that he is on another level. Those issue should get cleared up with minutes.

Preseason, yes. Beginning of a new season, yes. With that said.

I do see off the field chemistry, but that has not translated to on the field as of yet, if ever. PV seems like a very nice guy and a nice coach to have on practice days. But truly I see no difference from PV to JK on actual game day strategies and the need to utilize substitutes way sooner in the matchs.

This two year turnaround of players is unfortunate and does not bode well for this team and lineup. It’s like for likes, I see absolutely NO differences in players or they’re playing style. Same old same old, nothing dynamic.

We need quality strikers!!! The team cannot rely on just one person to shoot and score. I saw absolutely no quality offense whatsoever in the preseason matches.

I seriously question Claudia Reina’s Sporting Directors abilities in picking out new talent.

Harrison on the right wing will be desperately missed.

#8 Alexander Ring does what needs to be done!

Brad Stuver in goal impressed. My pick for # 1 keeper.

I was just hoping for better quality new DP’s, especially regarding their hefty salary.

And again you can’t keep having the same guy take corner kicks, because you’re going to get the same damn results. Which is typically nothing, and that’s unacceptable!

Justin Haak was reminiscent of Mix and Pir-slow, maybe it has to do with the flowing hair. But I see promise, he needs to get more minutes on the first team.

And if NYCFC is going to trade guys they need to be upgrades, not likes for likes or less. And that is on you CR.

#30 Herrera who attempted a decent bicycle kick and it would’ve went in if it didn’t just hit his shin. I like to see some creativity and aggressiveness in front of goal.

I think we can distill it down to something even simpler for all those saying it's preseason so whatever with lineups. How much time is PV going to give Medina to play next to Villa? Because right now I think they are at 0 min unless they had some meaningless overlap while we played a man down against LAG. I don't care what other stupid lineups PV wants to roll out but every one of the limited seconds Villa spends on the field during preseason games Medina should be next to him working on chemistry and timing. Unless of course PV isn't planning on Medina being the day one starter which case why is he on the roster in a DP slot.
