Is this part even possible?
Perhaps not in the next few years, but once they get everything settled and teams build their stadiums to the right capacity (there was an article last year, don’t remember where, that the USL had enlisted an architectural firm to design a “stock” stadium that could be used by multiple clubs - cookie cutter), there’s no reason they can’t petition USSoccer to grant D1 status when the certification period comes around again. It come down to checking off all of the boxes in the criteria (stadium size, academy, investors, etc). Would USSoccer allow 2 D1 league.... who knows, but it’d be hard to legally argue against if there’s a published criteria that’s met. And there’s precedent for dual leagues in D2.

Edit: and the reason the NASL failed when they tried for D1 status was they had too few teams, they didn’t have teams in all geographical areas (SF lasted 1 year?), their stadiums weren’t all regulation capacity, etc. Had those items been met, it’d have been a more interesting decision, but they petitioned half-cocked with a losing hand to start.

Is there any country with two D1 leagues?

I think if USL can 1. implement the closed pro-rel system they have in the works (USL Championship/USL1/USL2). 2. Get a solid TV/Streaming Deal. 3. Have around 3-5 teams that meet D1 status in the Champiosnhip. 4. Continue their strong, solid growth; The leagues could all merge with MLS in 10-15 years.

I wonder if any of this is true.

View attachment 9431

I think this is definitely true. Also I read that the first ever Queensboro FC fan was in the hospital and David Villa told them "ur gonna be ok" and when they came out from their heart transplant they said "where is David Villa I can't find David Villa" and then the doctor said "who do u think gave u the heart"

If the Mets are part of this I guess I’m out. It was fun being hyped for this for a bit.

How would the Mets be a part of this when they don't have the money to fund an MLB team? Now they're going to go into minor league soccer? Sorry, not plausible in the least.

I assume that’s Yankees snobbery talking. The Mets have the 10th highest payroll in baseball (Yanks have 7th). The madoff thing is way behind them. They would easily qualify as a USL or MLS ownership group.

No way in hell do they have USL money, but they do have money for a major shopping mall and residential development.

As a Mets fan Madoff still effects this team. The Mets had to buy back the 4% shares from the individuals who paid for those shares back in 2012 in 2018. The Mets needed $200M to keep operations going in 12. 2018 was as that was first year they could sell the stock . If all of those individuals sold the Mets would need to pay minimal $200M, but I believe it will be more as the 4% was when team was valued at $500M. Plus unless I missed it there was another 10% out there that the Mets were looking to take inhouse.

With respect to payroll those numbers are inflated as the Mets charge the entire salary of David Wright and Ces even though they are getting insurance money on the deals.

All the Mets deals this off season has been payroll neutral for the next two years. Plus the Mets don't take on salary and pay cash when they make deals which results in the team giving up higher end prospects because they are still not completely done with the Madoff.

Sorry. The Wilpons don't care and they work the system to shaft people. They allegwdla worked with MLB to depressed the evaluation price of when Wilpons bought out Double Day. The team completely ignores their NY Giants roots
