RB Postmatch

RB's tactics last night were really interesting and I feel like if we had our full team, not tired, we'd have easily blitzed them. RB for a good amount of the time really had only 1 or 2 defenders back with the others all pushed up supporting the midfield - it was 8 and sometimes 9 players clogging the middle and trying to overwhelm our defense. That was the prime reason we were on our heels and not able to make the short passes to break out (that and everybody seemed overeager to make the bad pass right back to RB). Of the three CB defenders, only one is a true CB with the other two being outside backs that seemed to be there more for speed and to push up to apply pressure rather than defend deep.

To break that, we needed to have our wingers spread higher to receive outlet passes over the top and into space; it rarely worked with only Villa high and no immediate support. But to push the wingers higher, Hererra was needed to help Ring sweep out the attacks and hold the line in front of our Defense; YH easily covers more ground than Lopez and has better stature/length to tackle/hold the ball. Those two, plus the four defenders and keeper would typically be enough to win the ball and make the long pass forward into space if the short pass wasn't there. Maxi would be able to stay higher to harass with the forwards. One well placed outlet pass and it'd be three forwards w/ Maxi trailing running in space against at most 3 defenders (or only 1-2) with Felipe chasing. I'd take that matchup every time against RB over a build from the back attack.

I know it's all hypothetical, and we played the way we did because of our lack of healthy players (Jack's legs are shot and Wallace looks like he's only got a 60min tank), but I do think if we can get healthy by the playoffs and not have anybody suspended for yellows, then PV could easily shift the tactics to advanced wingers and it will take RB out of their game.

Can we get someone to superimpose Red Bull Arena on Fudgy the Whale?
Fits just fine.

We are second in the Shield standings have played ZERO games with our Best XI. Even our vaunted midfield trio, who I think many would consider one of the best in the league, has played all of 5 games together. Not saying we are the deepest team in the league, because we are obviously not, but we do have depth. Its just currently running thin with how crazy our luck has been with suspensions and injuries.
We're stupid shallow at midfield. And striker.

I'd argue we've been lucky with injuries. If one of those long term ones were to Ring or Villa, we'd be dead in the water.

Maxi is my hero. Start at 3:50, watch his reaction at 4:19
Also at 11:45, you see the missed handball call. It's 100% a handball. We're continually being fucked by the referees with these bullshit yellow cards and garbage like this. It's a systemic problem.

Unless head band guy can play CB or CDM or is footing the multi million dollar bill for Messi to be our next DP I could do without 3 clips of him per every behind the scenes video.

In other words, you're empirically wrong.we aren't as deep as our competitors for silverware. Therefore, we are not deep. No matter how many sycophants rep the post. Our roster is shit.

It's not the result I'm upset with. Overall a draw wasn't a bad result. It's how we looked out there. Especially when I believe we had the tools for the capacity to achieve more.

If you think Mikey Lopez can be a hybrid player for you why not Jack Harrison who is bounds a leaps a more skilled player. All while Lewis has proven himself more than capable up top.
Jack was gassed two games in a row. I would have started lewis and put Jack on the bench.

We are still so thin with the roster right now, I'm not at all surprised we've looked worse and worse through August. We need these ~two weeks to heal, have guys get their lungs back (Jack, Wallace), and mount a gameplan for SKC. We haven't given up a true run-of-play goal since the last NJ game and our defending before the White injury was quite good. With Herrera, I don't think NJ sees nearly as much of the ball 30-35 yards out testing us.

Maxi's reaction was to the Douche Bros screaming their lungs out in the tunnel, right? Hilarious. Love it.

So we still didn't get LionNYC LionNYC report to have to sit next to those douches for the whole game.

What's amusing about seeing that handball again, is that when it happened Twellman tried to say nobody from NYCFC threw their hands up to protest, but there clearly were players pointing it out. I'm sure they quit immediately when it was clear Jair wasn't going to call it, and for the life of me I don't understand why VAR didn't review it. It's no conspiracy any longer, the refs really aren't calling PKs for us.

Point of Information: it's not Jack's lungs, it's his legs.

Agree on everything else.

Well my dad got friendly with them at the RB home game so they weren't dicks the entire guy. I was talking with one of them for most of the match and how guys like Tyler Adams aren't good enough for Europe yet, Alex Muyl doesn't know his place on the pitch, Miazga is good but isn't good enough to crack the Chelsea 1st team. MLS Cup playoff schedule, expansion cities, and a lot of other stuff about the league.

When we scored, basically nobody returned to there seats yet so it was just me going crazy after Maxi's goal.

Then they returned and they told me the people upstairs also agreed that the Wallace didn't dive.

At the end, I told them they were playing for the draw, especially when you take out BWP for Dilly Duka. So they were saying, "No injuries bulls, we got a cup game." I said under my breath, "In a month."

They were not 100% douches on the day.

Felipe was 100% dick.

Did your account get hacked?

We need a holding midfield that's strong and can pass the ball. I like having aggressive guys in there but Ring, Herrera, Lopez are not good passers and play killers. I applaud Maxi's effort to come back for the ball and build play up, but that's not his game. He creates a void where he's supposed to be as a link to the top. So there always empty space there. Our midfield is all over the place. Maxi needs to play a CAM role and I like having two DMs sitting back, but there still needs to be an upgrade there. I like both Herrera and Ring, but one of them needs to point guard this team and not sure which of either can be that guy.
