If we were to move Mix and bring in a winger, we could move TMac back to midfield as the first offensive option off the bench. That said, I still prefer bringing someone who can provide an upgrade to central defense.

Saw that Kekuta Manneh didn't play for a "coach's decision" for Vancouver last week. Maybe he's being moved. Imagine a front line of Manneh-Villa-Harrison. Yeah, chance of it happening is about 0%, but that would be filthy.

There are really 2 areas to go for in an upgrade: a better CB and a winger to start beside Villa and Harrison. If Mena-Brilliant is the desired combo (and I think that must have been the idea at the beginning of the season...you want the strong/smooth combo - i.e. Puyol-Pique) then you get that winger. It's also harder to integrate a new CB to the backline as chemistry is key with your starting CBs. But Hernandez should be #3 at best by the end of the transfer window.

You also need midfield depth, but that will happen if you get that winger and move TMac back as Gotham Gator Gotham Gator mentions above.

vancouver had the second leg canadian championship last week so they are probably just rotating guys in.

T Tom in Fairfield CT , I generally agree with your take about Lampard in this thread. But I wouldn't argue as strongly due to his smaller sample size of starts, much less his performance in just one game.

He's found a way to contribute some positive plays despite just getting healthy a few weeks ago. If he doesn't keep improving, and Mix stays, I'd agree with your plan to play Mix and use Lampard off the bench or at least in a rotation. But I'm cool with giving Lampard a few more games - even he admitted after the game he's still not quite 100% match fit. Also, Mix has had plenty of chances to show he's the answer and he hasn't shown it.

As usual I appreciate your response. I'm trying to get out of this one man battle, but I have to say mix hasn't had a chance to play with iraola or harrison yet either.

I agree that this is a massive point. I just don't want want to argue with anyone over this at this time. Maybe next week I'll join the proactive battle on this front.

As is, we're winning. I thought Lampard had a pretty good game. But I usually think Mix plays pretty well, too.

Asked about the team’s mentality following Sunday’s defeat, Marsch went on, unprompted, about NYCFC’s social media behavior following the match.

“Listen man, we are all disappointed,” he said, adding, “Even when New York City puts the pictures on the internet, it gets everyone riled up.”

The content in question was a group photo shared by captain David Villa post match, featuring a jubilant and celebratory NYCFC side mugging for the camera — the kind of shot most teams reserve for post-championship winning victories.

The official NYCFC Twitter account later re-tweeted Villa’s original tweet, catching the eye of Marsch and the Red Bulls. It’s clear Marsch has taken note of the perceived slight, and will likely use it as motivation for the next time the two sides meet. That, of course, will be on July 24th as NYCFC visit the Red Bulls in Harrison.

So now that we've finally won one and they are pissed about something we've done, does that mean it's now officially a rivalry?

Marsch is such a fucking prick. The slights, the snide comments, all that shit started on the other side. He likes to keep his team playing with a chip on its shoulder, but he doesn't need to go public with his statements to do that.
Without a chip on their shoulders, they're a very average team. Without their physical play, they're a very average team. Their style & tactics have been adapted to by the league, hence their league leading 9 losses.... Marsch is a very average coach, and with his contract extension they're stuck with him for a while.

Which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. I love hating that dude and I don't really hate any of their players.

makes you wonder if their mercurical play is because of marsch's up and down nature.

i was a kreis guy last year but viera really showed me the importance of leadership. it could be the most important part of being a coach. if we kept the xs and os and the players the same as last year, and i think we would still be a better team.

I don't think he's a particularly good coach, but their seesaw season is mostly a function of home/away: 6 wins in 8 home games; 1 win in 10 road games.
Possibly. But at a certain fundamental level, playing away should not be on the absolute opposite end of the spectrum with no wins - their win at YS, a ten mile drive, is hardly considered 'away'. So that begs the question of how badly he prepares them mentally and psychologically. Honestly, he got lucky last year because his players bought into his system, but it's a one-time thing now that the league has adapted - it's not as if he had any success in Montreal.

Twelve teams in MLS have one or fewer home wins. That's more than half, which makes it the norm. It's not him. Obviously better teams aspire to more, but they're a mediocre team. I think you agree with that. But it also means it's not all him.
