RSL Postmatch

Nothing to do with the match itself, but didn’t ismael tajouri-shradi say he prefers shradi? Why did our announcer keep referring to him as tajouri in pregame and during the goal celebration?

Edit: And all the graphics just say Ismael Tajouri. They don’t even put the Shradi in there. Very odd.

Yes, Isi said it should be “Tajouri-Shradi” or just “Shradi.” It annoyed me that the club can’t get it right. Intern, get on it and change that now!

Another thought on Berget’s goal.... that was a seriously well-placed shot of a calm goal scorer and not what is expected from a bruising Center forward. The guy has finesse in his wheelhouse.

Also, after watching the highlights, he has really good trapping skills - it was the first minute when he split the CBs and took a long ball out of the air and settled it on the run. That’s a pretty valuable skill for a forward that can find the seams and split the defense. Amazing (and not unexpected) how a little fitness boost can unlock a player’s skills.

Whoscored isn't a perfect ranking system, but they gave Maxi a 9.99. I don't follow all that closely but that is the highest I've ever seen.

I think Messi has gotten a 10 in the past, maybe on a champions league game where he has a hat trick or four goals or something absurd. But yeah, Maxi last night was straight dealing.

Speaking of Maxi, the Audi player index (YES I now it is inherently flawed and we could spend a whole thread bitching about it) gave him a score of 1283, that is one of the highest individual scores I have seen. NYCFC also scored over 6000 as a team which is off the charts good as well.

That Audi index awarded him points for his goal and subtracted some for a PK goal. Makes no sense unless they’re trying to devalue a PK vs regular goal, except that nullifies the play that earned the PK/drew the foul. Still is a BS data point.

The Audi index gave Maxi 285 points for a goal and took away 147 points for the PK goal. Valuing a PK goal less than a regular goal makes sense - there is far less effort and finishing.

The index also gave Maxi 170 points for winning the penalty. That makes sense too.

So a player can gain points for winning a PK and the player who converts the penalty also gets points, but fewer than a goal from the run of play. Winning a Pk has a higher value than converting it. That makes sense.

Missed that on the winning the PK points. At least he’s coming out ahead however they need to tally it (one step forward, two steps back, three forward)

It’s still shitty how they score it. Confusing as hell. Just value a PK goal differently than a regular one. Subtracting points for scoring a goal makes no sense.

One other thing that hasn’t been mentioned yet.

I can’t believe I am going to say this...arrrgghhh...it feels just wrong, but....

Mark Geiger called a good game.
