San Jose - Postmatch

There’s no way Atlanta is one of the 17 because they get gifted PKs every damn week.

And you’re a masochist for reading those comments.

Toronto also gets a lotttttt of penalties. Heck somebody breathes on Jozy and he flops and it’s always a penalty.

But yeah, Atlanta also gets a ton of penalties and also favorable red cards at home.

Has a single penalty been called for NYCFC this year? In five games? No, right? Has any other team gone five games without a penalty in their favor?

It’s not just this year, but most of last year saw a lack of penalty calls go our way. Considering how tough it is for opponents to defend Villa, he’s hacked down nearly once a match in the box (maybe 2 every 3 games), and yet the ref rarely points to the spot.

Don’t know if there’s some advanced xPK stat that could tell us what we may have deserved, but on raw PK attempts given we’ve been in the league’s top 10 each year. There’s a dozen other teams without an attempt yet this year.

I do remember last year that there was a long stretch to start the season where we neither had a penalty called for or against us, meanwhile many teams throughout the league had multiple called. Obviously, some are more deserving than others and that kind of stat can happen and be justified, but I felt like it had gone long enough that it was quite odd.

That’s just Jozy though, constantly looking for penalty. I am surprised by now the entire league hasn’t had him figured out. He is useful against weak defense but against a decent team his only chance to score is through penalty. I hope he won’t play for USMNT anymore.
