Scottish Football

10 wins out of 10 games for the season for Rangers after a 3-0 victory versus Livingston yesterday. Wallace, Waghorn and Law on target. Wallace goal particularly stunning.

Aberdeen with a great start to the season having won all six of their opening games. Only conceded two goals as well. Currently lead Celtic by two points and also have a game in hand.

Would love to see Aberdeen pull it off. Not that I particularly like them but obviously A- I hate celtic and B- it's been far too long since a non old firm team did win the title. Still don't think they will but jebus that would be sweet.

World famous DUFC inching ever closer to sacking the manager by losing to the team bottom of the table...

I'm liking Aberdeen for two reasons this season ( I normally despise the club and fans)

1. Derek McInnes
2. An alternative to the OF as well as very high attendances which i like to see, i thin ksimilar is happening at Hearts and Dundee, two clubs id like to compete in the future also.

One things for sure, If those three clubs, Rangers and Celtic can become a formidable top 5 then maybe Scottish Football could be onto something.

Dundee United looking extremely poor

From a Gers point of view - LOL
From a Scottish Point of view - Disappointing as i like to see the big clubs act as benchmarks for one another to do well, which i would bracket united with the Dons, Hearts and Hibs as well as their nextdoor neighbours.

Yeah I do know Gers fans rather dislike Aberdeen. Incident with someone , was it Barry Ferguson's brother Ian I think? getting injured and the Aberdeen fans being rather nasty about it? As a Non Scottish Rangers supporter it's not fully in my bones as it would be yours. Still imagine their decidedly the lesser of two evils when paired with Celtic. Plus it can only be good for football in your country to not have a duopoly . That being said Rangers winning a few in a row ASAP will elicit no complaints form me :D

Ian Durrant (who was a fantastic young champions league level player at the time) was brutally, and deliberately injured by an Aberdeen player Neil Simpson, which resulted in Durrant never being the same player, and Dons fans enjoy singing about that. Add in that they are the third club in size, success and fanbase, then you have the second most hated team for a Gers fan.

The duopoly of course wasn't a bad thing for most of scottish football history, when Rangers Celtic and occasionally another team would do well/very well in Europe, but Rangers downfall in 2012 meant that scottish football was exposed by the fact it had basically one team worth of note capable of competing in europe and actually winning the league.

Put it this way, i would list the following in order of hatred (The gap between Celtic and the rest is deliberate, to show the distance)

Celtic

Aberdeen

Dundee United
Hibs
Hearts
Motherwell

I don't really think any fans of other clubs outside of Scotland really realise that Scottish Football and Scottish Society can be very poisonous and divided at times, much of it rooted in football, some of it in more serious issues such as independence. Even when English players come up they are not only astounded at the actual size of football clubs like Rangers and Celtic, they are taken aback by the hatred and bile in the scottish game. (I'm not hiding from the fact rangers should take their fair share of the blame)

The so called 'non-old firm clubs' absolutely despise the OF and their fans are despicable at times, and this is shown up to an executive level at these clubs. Obviously rangers and celtic have the longest rivalry and naturally despise one another, but it, and more so in the last 20 years, has become more obvious that the OF are utterly hated, and i would argue Rangers are hated considerably more than Celtic in Scotland, evidenced through the other 11 SPL club voting rangers to the third division despite being found not guilty of the big tax case.

However that's the blue glasses talking, i tend to enjoy seeing scotland in general doing well on the big stage and im a big advocate of Executive reconstruction in the scottish leagues to help clubs financially

Have fun - terrible stadium if i do say so my self ;);)

On a serious note it would indeed be a bucket list stadium, avoid Hampden at all costs, shocking stadium imo, you travelling from the USA?

Thanks for the history refresher Andy. Should have remembered it was Durrant and from what I've heard portions of the Aberdeen support still sing about it?

Haven't made it to Scotland yet myself. Probably waiting till Rangers are back in the SPL to experience Ibrox at this point. Also nothing but good things about Tynecastle and as a history buff would probably want to see Edinburgh as well as Glasgow once I was in Scotland so maybe try to hit them both.

Yeah, Ibrox for obvious reasons would be in my opinion the best stadium in Scotland of course and when it's a sell out (particularly in european games) nothing comes close, possibly even all over britain. Tynecastle is also a great wee stadium, it might only have a capacity of 17,000 but Hearts fill it nearly every time and the design of the stadium adds to the atmosphere amazingly, as someone who has been at a Hearts v rangers game, it was an amazing away trip.

So, Goodfella, tell me, how was your first experience of scottish football up close?
it was fantastic! couldn't have asked for a better game from Celtic performance perspective, aside from Izaguirre sending that PK into the upper deck. Great sightlines and a beautiful pitch and good atmosphere, I'd say 40,000+ in attendance. The lack of alcohol definitely changes the mood of the stadium and I think I'd actually say for the better (I'm a drinker, mind you). Really fun time.

Good to hear mate, glad you enjoyed it.

If you ever get the chance in the future, get along to an old firm game. You won't find an atmosphere anything like it anywhere in the world (at either Celtic Park or Ibrox)

I definitely will!

First loss of the season for Rangers on Tuesday night v St Johnstone, disappointing considering we dominated the game, credit to the Saints though as their gameplan of sit in and counter with pace worked perfectly. 1-3 final score. Take it as a wake up call for the future. Same night of football saw a Hibs side two places behind us in the league defeat Aberdeen 2-0 who are top of the Prem, and Ross County hammer Falkirk 7-0 who are one place behind. Football is a funny old game.

Andy, has Zelalem been playing at all? Thought he might be a bit lightweight for Scottish football when I saw the loan move, but I've also heard a lot of positive things about Warburton so hopefully it will be a good experience for him.

Yeah, he has started every game since he joined. He is absolutely strolling it and i can tell you this guy if he gets a chance at Arsenal he will go to the very top of the game, and that's from someone who has watched Rangers players back in the day when we had some of the best in Europe. An absolute gem, physicality isn't even an issue, he just drops the shoulder or feigns the opposition player leaving them for dead and creating space every time. You can tell he is still a bit raw, but has the ability in spades. Vision is unbelievable, can pick out brilliant passes at time. Mature beyond his years indeed. Has pace, can dribble exceptionally well.

He will be in the US team within 2-3 years in my opinion. Fits into Rangers/Arsenal style of play perfectly and is definitely one to watch for the future.
