Scottish Football

Just in case you need a reminder of how THINGS COULD ALWAYS BE WORSE, The World Famous Dundee United were trounced 5-1 at home and sacked our fourth manager in as many years after a terrible overall start to our third successive season in the lower division.

Football sucks.

Despite Rangers being my team in Scotland I'll admit I'd be thrilled if Hearts actually pulled a Leicester could only be good for The SPL.

Since NYCFC is rumored to be chasing former Dundee United man Gary Mackay Steven, DUFC responded by signing up an American!

Welcome to the nightmare, Ian Harkes!

seems he was with DC last year, before being released, and is the son of John (?) Harkes.

Anyone know if this guy has any talent at all, or should I just prepare myself for the inevitable underwhelming performances, followed by "mutual release" in 6 months?

Also, he says his grandfather was born just a short distance away from where United play, so that's a nice bit of trivia :)

First off, his neck looks extended in that damn photo, and it's scaring me.
I do believe he is a highly rated player, or was at least before getting up to DCU. Not 100% sure how he's performed for them, but I think he's been pretty good to great for the most part.

But, that fucking neck though. Did they accidentally drag it in Photoshop as a joke and forgot that they did that?

omg, I didn't even see that. SO MUCH NECK.

This is good info and should aid with the main forum's "is MLS better than the Scottish league" debate. Some guy that gets a few games in MLS and now has an opportunity to tear it up in Scotland's lower leagues...... time will tell!

Yeah, he’s got skills. Won the Hermann trophy. Was thrust into a starting role a bit too fast at DC his first year and I believe later got injured for a while. Not sure what happened with leaving the team other than DC started spending money on some players.

SWEET!

We have a great track record of ruining players recently, but were just sold by a Scottish bald guy to an American bald guy with facial hair, appointed a guy from Vancouver as a coach, as well as some other US based business types, so hoping this is a period of Minnesota nice!

Well, sadly, Jock Jock , I feel confident that he’s not good enough, even for Scotland.

But who knows. If he tears it up, just proves you and me both more right that if it’s not Scottish, it’s crap, except vice versa in footy, ie, if it’s Scottish, it’s crap when it comes to their league.

ETA: his dad is also pretty much Ryan Giggs when it comes to character. So maybe you can hope his dna swerved those traits. But who knows...

Anyone know anything about Matt Polster ? Defender/midfielder from The Fire looks set to sign with Rangers.

He’s pretty good. Trialed there before, so they know him well.

He’s probably an above average SPFL player, especially technically. Not going to tear up any trees. Will do a job. I hope he does well. But I wouldn’t get crazy excited.

It really sucks that Celtic got the rest of the Americans looking at SPFL. Rangers made an offer for at least one.

Hate to See Weah on loan at Celtic though Rangers went the opposite end of the age spectrum and got Jermaine Defoe on loan will be interesting to see which pans out more. Think the title race will at least go down to the wire this year.

I also lament the Defoe signing.

I think it’s just that Rangers have no money. Otherwise, they could/should have begged/bought Solanke.

Looks like Woodburn might head over. He might be pretty good. When Hyndman went over in a similar situation, he was damn near carrying the team at times. Speaking of, too bad for all parties they couldn’t land him permanently.
