I considered the wording a few times before just kind of shrugging and going "screw it". I doubt he was signed on a free and NYCFC certainly didn't make any reference to how he was signed that I saw, which suggests there was some fee or other, but without knowing more I couldn't possibly elaborate.

I know that it makes it sound like sexual favours or drugs were involved, but...hey, I can't technically rule that out...
