So what does this actually ban? They keep the transverse roads (thank god), so what other vehicles are they getting rid of? Delivery trucks that come in early morning to help set up for races and other events? If that's the case, then that will be a pain in the ass. Or is it the NYPD/NYParks vehicles? If that's it, then ok, that's really not all that much, and what it probably means is they're just shifting to those golf cart things, which isn't really that big of a difference.

Edit: just saw it really only affects weekday morning traffic in certain parts of the park. Seems like a massive announcement that really doesn't appear to do a whole lot

It’s pretty big. Cars run morning and evening rush hours in varying spots on the east side and also on the north west side going south. They also run middle of the day from the bottom to east 72nd. There’s no needs for cars speeding through. This change is long overdue.

Edit: obviously parks and NYPD will still have access, as will permitted events that have operational needs to transport stuff in.

Probably just goes to show when and where I use the park and why I don't see this. For me, its usually early in the morning or early evening run, but those usually don't go south of 72nd. And then the weekends for longer runs, but then there wouldn't be cars there already.

Out of curiosity, what is the Mott Haven neighbourhood like ?
I lived just outside of Mott Haven for a good part of my life. My sister still lives at 144 and Grand Concourse (where I will be parking!) since 1984. It was a rough neighborhood for years, typical of any South Bronx neighborhood in those days. But since the early 2000's it has improved. Just within the last 5-10 years alone, Mott Haven has been transitioning to the point where this project is coming to fruition. With or without the stadium, this development is going to take it 10 steps forward.
 
Looks like the 138 St/Grand Concourse 4/5 stop and the Third Ave/138 St 6 stop are about the same distance away. So two lines?
The Grand Concourse stop is much further away. I think you're getting confused about the 138th 3rd Ave 6 train stop and the 138th Brook Ave 6 train stop which are about the same distance away.

And effectively, even though they split in the Bronx, the 4/5 and 6 trains are the same line until you get to the Bronx. So I wouldn't necessarily say there are two different lines servicing the area, even if the 4/5 was a reasonable option.

There’s gonna be another subway to the stadium (unlikely by the time it opens since it’s est as 2027-2029).... the 2nd Avenue line is continuing up to 125th Street as its terminus. That will connect the west side (via transfer) and alleviate east side congestion. That extension is part of phase 2.

Speaking of public transportation... as a long islander I was a bit disappointed in the location of the proposed site at first because getting to the stadium via the 6 looked like a bit of a pain in the ass from penn (or from anywhere in general), but with the lirr set to complete their line to grand central it would make getting to the grounds pretty accessible for us on LI as well.

Would be massive if this is implemented with stadium
Anybody else notice that in the picture, LaGuardia is a massive airport with lines of terminals like the ATL airport on top of a huge new plinth of contrete - they totally removed Rikers Island?!?! I knew shutting it down was in the cards, but it looks like more than just closing the doors - that’s serious earth moving.

Edit: and with the super long new runways, the new stadium is in the landing path.

Phase 2 of the 2nd Avenue Sunday (96 to 125) still an unfunded, unstudied pipe dream, unfortunately. Phase 1 was 10 years from funding to completion...

yeah you're right, not really two lines. I'll take the boat!
