So when do they announce the subsidies to build a state-of-the-art soccer stadium in Manhattan so we don't have to suffer the national embarrassment of hosting a World Cup final in New Jersey?
I mean... we should wish for the day that NYCFC can justify an 80K-100K seater for itself.

I'm perfectly fine hosting the final in Met Life. It's a fine stadium that's big enough for the event. I just don't want my New York MLS team to play over there, ya know?

I get not wanting a NY team in NJ. 100%.

But an embarrassment to host games in Giants Stadium??? That’s a stretch. WC games have been hosted in far less desirable places for us to be embarrassed by NJ.

It’s not like the Bronx or WP are some great areas to host a WC match.

Oh shit sorry didn't realize we had PATH commuters.

Holding a World Cup Final in East Rutherford is better than hosting it anywhere in New York City from a staging perspective. They will need to introduce more trains to and from like they did for the Super Bowl. But for safety, television, training and access, it may be the best stadium in America to host such an event.

And to the eurofucks who will inevitably bitch about the lack of bars. Fucking tailgate like a man.

The Meadowlands area is going to look drastically different in 8 years. The State hopes that sports gambling will drive more folks to the racetrack there. That was the plan under Christie. The 5th iteration of Xanadu will also be open then.

I would imagine you would also see a World Cup Village in both Times Square and the Meadowlands if they hosted.

And yet I'll still be tailgating.

I think that for 2026 SURELY the NYCFC will have a new soccer stadium. If this stadium will have AT LEAST 40k seats, in your opinion is there the chance to have a pair of games of the 2026 FIFA World Cup also in NYC?

Welcome back F Fabio We miss you!

Possible? Yes
Will a NYCFC stadium, if it comes to fruition by then (which I think it will) be a world cup venue? Almost certainly not, even if they somehow decide to build 40k.
Giants Stadium will get the metro new York matches, much bigger and much more money on the line.
Our stadium may get less glamorous matches that won't draw well, but those matches will probably go to b markets like Orlando or Mexico.

I honestly don't believe we will have a stadium by then, but if we did, there is no need to have games anywhere other than MetLife. In the end it's about money and the double capacity makes a huge difference in that regard

Not that it matters cause we could never match MetLife capacity but I don’t think we have at least 40k. I think 25k is the likely cap.

For anyone who hasn't been by MetLife in the last 6 months, the American Dream Mall is moving along fast. It's going to have an aquarium, ski slope, indoor rollercoaster...it's the largest mall in the northern hemisphere they say. Opening next spring. Honestly, Red Bulls should have had a stadium built there.
