Next question, who are we selling for a max GAM deal to afford this?
Assuming the rumors are true that Maxi is a buy down DP I can only imagine that we would need to use the overwhelming majority of our available cap buy down mechanisms on that particular deal, and the maintainace of our other above cap players.
Given those assumptions, I dont think we're going to be keeping Mata for that much longer.

If you don't like selling your best young talent so that you can reinvest in older foreign talent, you're going to REALLY hate MLS.
but its for a 22 yr old DM not a older foreign talent at LB.
I looked at it as selling Matarrita to buy down Maxi. But that works also.

Don't get your hopes up. By this time next year, 3-4 young players associated with our Club will no longer be with the Club.
The key now is properly reinvesting the funds we get for 2 of those players.
of course.....i just dont like losing players half way during a season without a good replacement/backup. we could put wallace there...but who do we put upfront? maybe Tmac?
Lewis is the future of the Left wing position. Camargo can slot in immediately.
Is LB a good position for Wallace? I never watched him when he played for Portland, so I won't presume to know, but I remember when he signed for NYCFC, I saw comments from Portland fans that he didn't play great at LB
I don't really know how his positioning would be either, but I do know he played LB during his season in Brazil as well. So he has more than a few games at the position.
I suspected initially that the Wallace signing was a hedge against Matarrita being sold. With Lewis stepping into LW at that point.
Was nobody paying attention during the last game's shoutbox?
To add to what I said, I don't know the timing, although I can guess this summer makes sense if Mata leaves, but the club is in active negotiations with a player that currently plays left back in a top 5 league for a CL team. This is current - just a few weeks ago. We would hands down have the top defense in the league with this guy added.

This is inside info? Do you know the name and are withholding, or is this the extent of the rumor?
EDIT: Fuchs is the obvious guess. Gaël Clichy is also on an expiring contract.
EDIT2: Can we please target a RB to get Harrison some help?
