2017 Summer Signings

So I looked this up.

As per MLS Rules in order to get cap relief:

  • The injured player must be earning at least $100,000 per annum.
  • The injured player must have suffered the season ending injury prior to the close the Primary Transfer Window and the new player must be signed as of such date.
  • The Season-ending Injury Replacement Player may earn up to $250,000 but not more than the player who suffered the season-ending injury.
  • The club is ultimately responsible for the payment of the replacement player's salary (which will not be charged to the club's budget).
  • MLS clubs will only be allowed to sign one such Season-ending Injury Replacement Player a year.
Miguel Camargo's base salary is $99,999.96
That is some kind of cruel joke

But even if he made 100,001 it would not have mattered since he wasn't injured prior to the close of the Primary Transfer Window and we had no replacement signed then either.

That may be true. But very poor foresight by the front office to sign him at that number. I get it, he wears 99 and those numbers have meaning. Then sign him to $100,000.99 if you know the rules! If he had been injured before the Primary Transfer Window, that cute little salary number could have really screwed us over $.04. There is no excuse for that.

I think it'll certainly be worth keeping an eye on the European leagues this fall. There are bound to be players falling out of favor with new coaches like in Maxi's case. I'm interested in seeing if we go with a $6mil or a $2mil guy. Not that they're likely to be much different, but $6mil will probably buy you a well-known player, and CFG seems to feel that's important for us, as well.

Those were one time signings. All Maxis moving forward

So your source versus a quote to media from the club president...even if I ascribed all of our past media bullshit to Patricof, I still know which I'd bet on.

Also, what does a "Maxi" mean? Somewhere between Mix and Lampard? Well, that's broad and there are a lot of stars in the area. So we aren't going to sign any more Fat Maestros. Who gives a fuck. Vela is a star. Gio is a star. Giovinco is a star.

Maybe we don't agree on what a star is. You can not sign overpaid washed up assholes and still sign stars.

Despite your typical prick response, you explained very well their thought process.

No more Villas. No more $6 million men. But also no $8 Million transfer fee Almirons. The J Dos Santos and Vela signings are the type of players you should expect

I'll be curious to see if Atlanta continues with the multimillion transfer fees on their next round of DPs. They haven't started any trends yet.

They'll sell Almiron for $20 million
I thought about that when I wrote the previous post. I agree, it seems the system can pay for itself if you can afford the initial outlay. Which makes one wonder why other deep pockets seem unwilling to try. Is it just the risk of picking wrong and not getting the return?
