2017 Summer Signings

I think all of the following players could be gone mid-season:

Pirlo
Matarrita
Brillant
Allen
Gomez
McNamara
Johanssen

We're also 2-4 players below the maximum threshold depending on who we sign. James Sands is a MF that doesn't hit the 28, but hits the 30 I believe.
Could see you being right except for Allen, Brillant and Johanssen for all the reasons noted intra.

Pirlo is just a mystery at this point. Could make a strong argument either way.

I think our summer signings will be stop gap and or depth signings. Think Fuchs and a Mendoza type player.

Claudio wasn't lying when he said, "this is our team." I don't get the sense right now that there is a good deal on the table for Matarrita.

Cazorla is very interesting. A healthy Cazorla is the best player MLS has ever seen - and I am including Giovinco, Beckham and Villa in that. I don't know if he is healthy. He could play as a deep lying "6," as a true box to box midfielder or as a creative 10, similar to what Maxi is doing now. But where do you fit him? Herrera is here for the whole season and has made an incredible difference in how we play. He completes the team. Ring may be our MVP. Maxi is a DP that you just signed.

You don't move Cazorla wide. Maybe you move Maxi wide left and have Cazorla do a better impression of Maxi?

Maybe Cazorla can get a Nigel De Jong contract too.

Sadly it looks like we can take Santi off the list, out another 5 months as a result of his 8th ankle surgery. It's too bad as he would be great in MLS but at this point it seems more of a question as to if he will ever play again.

There probably was a good deal on the table for Mata, that deal probably went away the moment he got hurt. You never really know with injuries, mata could come back as good as before, or never quite regain that form.

Only 39 more days until the Transfer Window opens on July 10th.... 39 long fcking days.... 39 days for Pirlo to decide his future.... 39 days for David Lee and Reyna to find suitors for TMac & Mata.... 39 days until Fuchs can don the shirt.... 39 days to find depth players that can be counted on....

Imagine that $325K in GAM we would have had if not had been used for Lewis and Awuah. Who, as of now, are a waste of money. Though I think with playing time we'll see their worth.

But trade McNamara for anything decent. $200K in GAM?

Lewis and Awuah seem like long term investments regardless of what we paid for them. The $325K in GAM is essentially the cost of not having an academy and being required to fill out the young talent on the roster by other means. But I do agree it's hard to imagine what type of help now player we could have had instead with that money.

Christian Fuchs seems like a serious possibility based on rumors and his stated intention for his next stop to be an NYC based team. The question is where does he fit and how does the money play out.

A GAM/TAM deal or regular MLS salary turned DP next year when Pirlo retires. Where he fits? On the left midfield or left back.

Even if Pirlo moved on, the DP targets are for 2018 and they look like Maxi Moralez.

Would be absolutely floored if someone that was a common name even amongst us nuts replaced Pirlo.

Is there a chance for a guy like Iniesta? I guess. But they want to build this team young and fast. I'm cool with that with the exception of Villa's replacement, with the caveat being that we keep getting Chanots and Rings and Herreras.

So are you assuming Mata is gone this summer if not who are you benching Mata or Wallace? Hard to think of benching Wallace with the contributions he's made this season. Where we really need help is RB, wonder if Fauchs or Mata can play on that side?

Well, from only an instant gratification perspective, rightly or wrongly, Lopez means more to the team than Pirlo right now. So there's pretty much no way that you could have a worse contract than Pirlo for the year.

Is Fuchs smart enough to play the Iraola role?

Fuchs can probably play LB, CDM, and CB in MLS.

That said, I don't think he's coming this summer. He's been seen in NY a lot recently, but he bought a house here a few years ago and it's the offseason, so that's not a new development. We probably don't have the TAM right now, definitely don't have a DP spot, and Fuchs has a full season left on 2-3x the wages he would get from us.

I'd say there's a 50-75% chance he joins in 2019.
