Not sure how this absolute classic of a thread escaped my attention SIX YEARS AGO, but wanted to ask about a different peanut butter preference - sweetness.

I don’t like any sweetness in my peanut butter. I want just peanuts and salt. Some of the jars out there should be labeled “Sugar (or honey) with added peanuts”.

Oh man. I grew up on Jif which is definitely just a jar of sugar, but damn it was good. As a proper member of Team 50 I don't allow myself such joys anymore, but I remember it with love.

Please please please read the back of your Peanut Butter Jars. There is truly very very little sugar in them. I’ve always wanted a more savory peanut butter too. But damn there’s not much sugar even in there to begin with. A serving of Jif, is two table spoons and in a serving there’s only 3 grams of sugar, 2 of which are added sugar. There isn’t any reason to not enjoy it over 3 grams of sugar. But I do wish they didn’t add those 2 grams of added sugar.

JIF has a lower sugar and salt peanut butter option which cuts the sugar by 1/3 and the sodium by a bit more than half. I would not have expected the 1g difference in sugar to mean much but it tastes remarkably different from the standard variety.

Anyone who wants less sugar and salt in their PB but finds the pure organic products too real, too bland, or too whatever, should look for this. It's been around at least since the 90s and has never been consistently stocked anywhere, but it has never disappeared. It doesn't have a special name. It does have a white label and a small banner that says "Low sodium, 33% less total sugar."

I disagree. If you use a sweetened-with-sugar peanut butter that's like sprinkling an extra half teaspoon of sugar on your sandwich. Not saying it should be banned or that you shouldn't enjoy it, but that's a lot of sugar to add.

Fair enough, I’m not really at the age where I have to think about those things. To me an extra half teaspoon seems like nothing. But to some that is a lot. My apologies for being ignorant.

This is a good point. I guess with peanut butter, a little sugar can go a long way.

My favorite is Woodstock. Very intense flavor; It’s like putting a handful of peanuts in your mouth. Quite excellent.

They have several varieties - sweetened and unsweetened, salted and unsalted, smooth and crunchy. Plus, you can get it in 20oz glass jars that are not only more healthy, but make great 20oz tumblers when you’re done eating your PB&J.

My favorite is salted, unsweetened, and yes, crunchy.

I'm not sure if Aldi is in the NY metro area, but the above pb has no sugar added, is reasonably priced, and my kids actually eat it. I've had it a couple times on a cracker and thought it was relatively good, but rarely have any pb anymore because my youngest is allergic.

Not precisely the point of this thread but I went to one of the most popular hand made ice cream places in my part of Connecticut last night and I had a peanut Butter Oreo Sundae with Hot fudge and peanut butter sauce. I truly feel sorry for anyone with a peanut butter allergy because it was pure heaven lol.

OK, after we all raid RJ Allen's pizza place for lunch we can pile back on the bus and head up there for dessert. Who's in!?!

I'm all about the crunchy, but have been buying the creamy lately for my daughter. We started mixing very little amounts into her baby food at like 6 months, because I would have pretty much died if she was allergic to peanuts. Now, at about a year, I give her several spoonfuls a day. Her favorite is a mashed up banana with a scoop or two of peanut butter(Home) mixed in!
It's great to hear that you've taken precautions and gradually introduced peanut butter to your daughter's diet. Peanut allergies can be a concern, and it's understandable that you wanted to ensure her safety. Mixing small amounts into her baby food was a wise approach to monitor any potential reactions.

As she has grown older, it's wonderful that she now enjoys several spoonfuls of peanut butter a day. The combination of mashed banana and peanut butter sounds like a delicious and nutritious treat for her. Bananas provide natural sweetness and valuable nutrients, while peanut butter adds protein and healthy fats to her diet.

Introducing a variety of flavors and textures at a young age can help develop her taste preferences and promote a well-rounded palate. It's fantastic to see how you're offering her enjoyable and nutritious options as she continues to explore different foods. Keep up the good work, and may she continue to enjoy her peanut butter creations!
