Well they shouldn't have even been let into the tournament technically, so I'd say they've come out quite well on this.

yes i recall that in 2010? ( whenever that USSF DIV 2 thing happened) they were not allowed in since the sanctioning did not take place in time.

Isn't this different since the league wasn't sanctioned before 2010?

I'm not certain on this, but this isn't what I was referring to. I was referring to someone bringing up earlier on this board somewhere else that there was a deadline to have a schedule published for NASL in order for them to compete in the US Open Cup. NASL did not release their schedule in time, and thus, none of the teams should have been eligible for the US Open Cup.

I'll do a little bit more digging if I can find the info on this, but I do remember reading that on this board.

If anyone cares: the tweet below shows the rules for the 2017 US open cup. If pro teams didnt release their schedules by 1/31/2017 they will not be able to participate in US open cup this year. MLS and USL have released but not NASL. so its not clear if they will take part in it. Of course knowing US soccer the may just give a waiver. Apparently NASL also did not take part of the 2011 US open cup for similar reason but at that time they were still not given DIV II status.

Oh, here it is. Earlier in this thread from you yourself, Fantazma Fantazma haha.

Looking forward to this. This tournament is underrated.

First game could be played at Coney Island too which would be fun to see.

Also much more important this season since it's the only way to qualify for CCL other than winning the MLS Cup (also referred to as the World Cup in the Midwest).

Is it? We could finish high up on the shield and still make it right?

Nope. Because of the change of format only MLS Cup and USOC winners for the next 2 years will qualify*.

*unless a Canadian team wins the MLS Cup. Then it's assumed the SS winner or highest non-Canadian team in the SS race will go through.

This is actually pretty great news. It makes the Open Cup more important.

Hope we do better than that brutal game at Fordham last year.

lol yes this i was aware.....i was referring to 2010 since i cant remember that and didnt feel like digging for it.

I know technically none of the NASL teams needed to be in this but USSF is always iffy with these rules.....i mean RGV Toros cant play but Reno 1866 can even though they are both affiliates.

EDIT: I meant they are both Hybrid teams
