U.S. Open Cup 2017

Strategically I should be rooting for Chicago to win this game tonight, so it keeps playing Cup games which might cause it roster issues down the road.
But I can't do it. I hate sweet/savory combos, and the thought of chocolate cinnamon chili makes me ill, but go Cincinnati.
I started watching the end of the 2nd half and Cincy has been the better team by far. Like it isn't even close. And they got hosed by the no call PK in the 93rd minute.

And Cincy just got fcked with a clear goal called off. Total BS!

Him and the Jimmy McLauchlin kid were really good
This game was incredible. This is why US Open Cup is so much fun (and why US Soccer needs to throw more money at it). So fun watching the underdogs play their hearts out. Chicago played well, too. Cinci's defense and particularly their goalie (Hildebrand) were just amazing. Cinci deserved the win for sure... didn't get a handball / PK call in the box, and got a goal called back on an incorrect offside call.

Anyway, I'm so glad I watched this game. And ESPN must be very happy they aired it. The whole game was amazing but the end was spectacular... Hildebrand (Cinci keeper) stood on his head and saved 3 PKs in the shootout. Stadium was rocking.

If MLS were to announce tomorrow that Cinci are getting an expansion slot, I'd have no problem with that. And I don't think ESPN would have a problem with it either. The momentum from this game alone would carry the club into a successful expansion launch.

So Cinci will play Miami in the quarterfinals, which is cool because it's guaranteed that one lower league team will be in the semifinal (IMO, always more fun when not all teams left in USOC are MLS). Apparently they're playing in Miami though, which I don't understand. Anyone know why they'd play in Miami? USL and NASL are both technically tier 2 leagues... so the teams would be on equal footing.

Added note: Only other non-MLS team left is Sacramento, who are playing Galaxy right now. Interesting to have two of the expansion bidders still fighting in USOC. It's got to help their bid (even if only subconsciously), right?

Coin flip I believe. Same reason RB hosted us and Cincy hosted Chicago.

Ah, okay, thanks. I was under the impression (maybe mistaken) that teams from lower tier leagues always hosted the higher tier league teams. That obviously wouldn't matter for Miami-Cinci, or for Red bull-NYCFC, but surprising that Cinci hosted Chicago only b/c of a coin toss.

I would like that rule, but I don't think it is the rule. You're more likely to get a big crowd in the lower tier team's house.

That Cinci game was packed. I believe they announced 32k+ and they pull big numbers consistently.
One of the things they don't want tho is to have to build a new stadium. When I was reading about them the fans are happy to be where they're at but league wants them to build.

From the soccer Don himself, "You build a stadium or you don't get a cut of our thing. This is a good thing we have but we have rules you gotta follow, they're not many rules but you follow em. Capisce?"

It was posted in the Expansion rumors thread in the last week or so. They share this stadium with the U of Cincinnati. It was retrofitted for soccer and they seem to have done a good job of it. You can tell it wasn't soccer specific but it fits well. Otherwise I can't see anything wrong with it that would require a new stadium. But MLS has its rules (except for us).
