U.S. Open Cup 2018

Carlos Vela is the best player in MLS. It's not really close.

What a freaking player. It's hard not to like him, too. He's so creative and fast and skillful.

It’s an embarrassment of riches on that team. And they will win the USOC. And then do well in CCL next year. Just watch.

the allocation money additions for new teams really screwed over NYC and OCSC.

We have/had longterm deals that we committed to that chewed up our tiny little allocation. The later clubs came in spending like a BCG consultant at the strip club.

Agreed. But everything that club has done, from roster construction to their fan base, to their stadium has been first class. Between them and ATL our club already looks like an outdated dinosaur when it comes to overall strategy.

Meanwhile this has tuned into one hell of a match

The eye test during Mexico's matches in the World Cup makes a strong case that he may be the best player on El Tri as well, though I suppose some might counter with "Chucky" Lozano. But in every Mexico match I watched I was continually impressed by Vela.
Hands down there, too, for me.

Portland protesting Ineligible player for LAFC yesterday. Seems tl;dr a player would count as homegrown domestic under MLS rules but as a foreigner under US Open cup rules.

I don't think I quite understood how much LAFC is annoying me until I read this and started grinning at the possibility that they forfeit for something so stupid.

Repped for irrational annoyance, even if I disagree that they are annoying. They play prettier football than ATL. Actually, maybe the prettiest in the league.

i mean it clearly comes out 100% as this but the rule is already in place, if anything LAFC FO and coaching staff fucked up not knowing the differences in rules between MLS and US Open cup. The question is if US Open cup committee will actually kick out LAFC and award 3-0 to Portland. This same issues has happened before in earlier rounds but not at this late of a stage ( unless i completely forgot)

really? can you elaborate why? i have not been annoyed at all, certainly not ATL level where they bitch every call going against them for weeks

They play great ball, and they annoy the hell out of me. They have a nice shiny new stadium, great uniforms, a knowledgeable coach out of the gate, and they got the most roster help of any expansion team ever, and that last point pisses me off. The last thing I wanted was for them to win any hardware this season. Hell, they even lucked out with the Nguyen “lottery” to get better. Make them go through a little internal turmoil before achieving greatness: have a coaching scandal, or disgruntled players they can’t move, or maybe their new signings drain their TAM/GAM only to find out the players are lemons and don’t gel, or maybe that team hawk that flies before the match attacks the team bench..... I don’t know..... but even though them winning helps us and they’d look good in the CCL, I hope they get knocked out on this rule enforcement (if true).

fair, i still dont see this as ATL level of annoyance....maybe because we are not in same conference im not really aware.

i dont know if they got the most help ever, still think atlanta got more out of it. the Nguyen lottery i can see as being rigged to help them

It seems the issue involves two players who are domestic for MLS purposes because they are Canadian, which is not enough to make them domestic for the U.S. Open Cup.

Not sure what the holdup is on this - don’t teams have to submit paperwork ahead of time for the players’ cards? And in doing so everybody’s status is known? If those two have green cards, it would be known to the officials, but from that twitter post it sure seems like there’s more investigating going on.....

Midas is right. It's wholly irrational and non-substantive. For what it's worth,
I hate their logo - the wings make no sense as placed (yes I get the design basis and symbolism- still hate it)
Gee, a new sports team with black as its primary color.
Even better -- black and gold. When tacky tries to be classy.
PS: Vegas Knights get a pass on this because it's Vegas. Tacky pretending to be classy is the whole basis of Vegas style.
Even Will Ferrell's clueless owner schtick is starting to bug me.
If you haven't noticed the LAFC fans turn to obnoxiousness start looking for it. Atlanta fans took a good half season to show their intolerable side as well, and really bloomed in Year 2.

I agree they play good soccer that's fun to watch. Fuck em.
