U17 World Cup - 2018 India

1-0 USA. Josh Sargent draws and converts the penalty.

He was fouled at the edge of the box. A bit soft, but ultimately fair. A dumb move by the defender as Sargent had a heavy touch and probably wasn't getting to the ball anyway. Welcome to watch 16-year-olds play soccer.

3-0. India hits the crossbar off a corner and U.S. counter. Carleton chases down a long ball and outpaces the India defense before rounding the keeper.

Didn't see the first half, but we apparently did very well. Not so much in the 2nd. Ghana with some very dangerous chances and now Sands is down after the last one.

Sands dispossesses Ghana on a dangerous attack, takes the ball the other way for a counter, and then draws a Yellow Card foul.

Andrew Carleton is an interesting player. Has some brilliant plays mixed in with many stupid blunders. He took the ball up the left side and went to put in a cross and just missed the ball completely. Then, he dribbled into a crowd of 4 players when options were available.

One guy who has looked good both games is Ferri in midfield.

Goal USA! The Americans have been slowly getting the better of play and had a great buildup when Durkin slotted one to a charging Goslin, who laid off right to Akinola, who took a touch and slotted home a tough finish.

1-0. 75'

It's been interesting watching Sands in this game. I like him better as a center mid than a center back. He's good in the air and in distribution, both of which are important in center mid. He is not a rock defending one-on-one near the box. He was turned a couple of times for dangerous crosses.

I think he's been the worst player for the US in both games, actually, and it's not particularly close.

Durkin was easily MOTM today. He was amazing in the 6 role.

Dest was outstanding at RB, and I have no idea why he was subbed.

Carleton is really slow and not very athletic. If he's going to make it as a pro, he'll need to move centrally and quit it with the dumb giveaways. He's proven why Tata doesn't play him.

I'd play the same back 4 and Durkin and Goslin and Acosta in midfield. That gives you strong defense with a true playmaker who's calm on the ball in front of them to get the ball to the danger men a bit more reliably.

Ferri has put in really strong effort in the 3 halves I have watched. He had a really bad turnover in the first game, but otherwise played well, including some smart passing. I didn't see the first half today, but comments I read were that he put in a very productive shift. I didn't see any big errors today but did see some good stuff too.

I feel like that's coded language for not wanting to criticize a 17 year old.

He's kind of wasteful with the ball. That said, he runs around a lot and works really hard.

Not coded. I liked what I saw, although effort was perhaps chief among it. To me, he just stood out as always being involved in things, and usually in a positive way. Won a lot of 50-50 balls, for example.

Didn't mean from you. You said you read comments stating that.
