Cordeiro is in as president. Moving beyond that tired debate, the likely more influential appointment is next, that of US Men's Soccer GM.

There is some chatter that Claudio Reyna could be a candidate. Thoughts on potentially losing him? Thoughts on other candidates?

Don’t think Claudio is as important to this team as PV is at the moment. I think it took a couple of years, but CFG as a whole have learned how the league works and the mechanics around the rules. The scouting system will still be in place. I’m not sure Reyna leaving is too much of a big deal. Unless he gave us a chance of landing Gio, and all indications are he really doesn’t.

It would be a huge blow to lose both CR and PV in the near term. I am afraid that PV may be out the door too soon, which would be worse if we had already lost CR. That would be scary.

If Reyna leaves, I would not be surprised to see David Lee promoted. His current title is Technical Director. I believe he is No. 2 to CR. Before gaining that title he was Director of Player Recruitment. We poached him from the Red Bulls and before that he worked for Exeter City FC. And he is very, very highly regarded within the club.

Jurgen Klinsmann. It won't happen. But he would be a great technical director. His problem was that he was both technical director and manager of the USMNT during his tenure with US Soccer.

Isn’t David Lee the Cap Guru on the team? Seems like a logical step up.

His macro ideas and theories about development and structure and mentality always seemed really sound. He just wasn’t always great at implementing it at the micro level of the squad.

He’d be really compelling, but I doubt he’d trade California for NYC.

It's going to be Jay Berhalter -- Gregg's little brother, who amazingly, I interviewed with for a job working for the MetroStars in 1996. It would have been to work with Jay and Leo Stillitano (R.I.P.) who is Charlie's little brother.

I didn't get it -- thank god.

To follow up, I’m saying Jurgen Klinsmann for USSF Men’s Technical Director. I don’t think CFG let Reyna take the USSF job until NYCFC has a stadium along with a full pyramid of development system from youth to academy to USL to the first team. CFG will pay him whatever he wants. And he can be a lot more successful with NYCFC than he can with USSF, where there wouldn’t be any results until five years.

Gotcha. Thought you were suggesting JK for NYCFC tech director. And yeah, I think JK would be good for the USSF position.

The biggest reason Sunil wanted Jurgen was to be technical diretor and replicate the work he did in the same role in Germany. I’d be perfectly fine with him taking that job going forward, but I agree it won’t happen.
