USMNT Talk

Klinsmann is a better coach than Arena.

He knew MLS based players have a limitation hence his use of dual nationals. His problem though was his constant changing of the squad. The guy couldn't pick a same 11 if his life depended on it.

The problem with Bruce Arena is that he thinks dual nationals aren't really american and that the majority of the squad should come from MLS.

I listened to the Sirius soccer network again on the way to the game last night, and just as I was arriving they started a segment with an international ref about the refs in WCQs, assignments for the WC, etc. I only caught a bit but one item really intrigued. The host asked the guest if he noticed what happened at the end of the Honduras/US game. He said he saw the ref hugging several Honduran players. The guest had not seen it but agreed it was completely inappropriate. The ref was Joel Aguilar of El Salvador with a long pedigree of calling international games.

Anyone else notice this or hear anything about it?

Saw it and thought is was grossly wrong. I don't even like during a game for the ref/players to pat each other. I'd never be the one to suggest money exchanged hands but there sure seemed to be a lot of comradeship going on there.

I noticed, but didn't think much of it at the time. Figured it could easily be a cultural difference. To shake the hand of the referee after the game doesn't indicate anything but respect and thanks, a short hug doesn't necessarily mean more than that.

I did notice that - not sure if this was talked about also, but I believe the game against Costa Rica had all of the refs from Panama - that struck me as odd

maybe not all from the same country, especially one we're in direct contention with to qualify for the World Cup

thats how FIFA does it for the world cup and qualifiers, i guess its to ensure that they're all able to communicate with each other to ensure no calls get missed - they pick a group of referees from the same country. for qualifiers - same referees, same country within the federation. nothing odd about it really. USA referees had the mexico - costa rica game that day.

Same with UEFA's tournaments and others

Maybe we need to direct our US refs to fix matches too, even it out. Or better, give other nations the message.

Latin American countries really dont like the USA. Throw Trump and his rhetoric into the mix and well......

That pbp dude was struggling so hard to keep a straight face. Don't know how he did it.

In other news, Wes looked really good in his sub appearance for Schalke today. Almost scored off a header, but the keeper saved it.

He's such a ball winner in midfield. I think it will be a shame if he isn't on the WCF roster if the US makes it. He probably should be on the next qualifier roster. He's playing at a level above anyone else out there.

I think Lalas threw his hat into the ring for next head coach.

In all seriousness he's right, but a more sober assessment of the state of US development may have been more effective. Just say that our youth development is behind the rest of the world and that a generation of players are just not good enough.

No way Lalas becomes a coach. He's never been a soccer coach.

I was so worried about missing US World Cup matches next summer as I have a very busy schedule. Fortunately, Bruce Arena has decided not he does not want to go to the WC so I won't have to worry.
It's going to be shocking when we lose another qualifier with Graham Zusi on the field. Hopefully our waaay past his prime keeper can find his chops one more time and save us.
