USMNT Talk

I don't think any of the top 10 world teams would have a problem in CONCACAF countries. We can't keep making the same excuses.
Agree with your last sentence.

But you're entirely wrong. They would severely struggle.

I don't want to pile on but he should not even a top 6-7 option

Yedlin, Chandler, Lichaj are all natural RBs that should be ahead of him. I would also play guys like Cameron & Fabian Johnson out of position ahead of him. I would also consider calling up Keegan Rosenberry and Robbie Rogers over Zusi.

Based on what? I don't agree with it but I could understand someone saying "I think Zusi has the skills to be a decent RB based on what I've seen over the years so I'm okay with him getting a shot at it." But regardless of how you feel about him no one has seen enough of him at RB to flat out declare him our 3rd best choice. I'm honestly curious as to what information you're using to inform that statement.

Woah. What in the world...you don't get the angst? He's. Not. The. Best. Right back. On. His. Own. Club.

Gents, relax! I said "at best the third choice" - as in, there are at least two people (Yedlin and Chandler) clearly ahead of him and perhaps/probably others as well. The point being that he isn't going to play there unless there is a rash of injuries at the position, which should be very rare. Heck, he won't even be on the squad if we are fully healthy. Remember that our two top choices were out, Cameron DID start ahead of him, and Fabian was as available as Yedlin and Chandler.*

The issue I think everyone has is WHY? Why was he brought in specifically as a backup RB option, not a mid who had to cover at RB? Half the RBs in MLS could probably fill in better than he did. Maybe this was Norris' chance to shine... Zuzi had a good NT run, but his time is done. Arena of all people should realize that. It's confusing and slighting worrisome that this even happened.

I'm finally getting to this thread today, and surprised to see so much conversation with only one mention of how shitty the field was so far.

That pitch was awful with the ball bouncing up all over the place. I noted at least one counter that Pulisic was leading that was thwarted by the pitch that I'm certain would have ended in at least a shot on goal.

Chandler IMHO should have gotten a callup. He was on a yellow card suspension but he could have played against Honduras.

In CONCACAF, if you don't play on a cricket pitch or a brown dirt field like we do against Cuba, its a win.

Don't forget the Tico's homage to Veteran's Stadium's turf with the added advantage of magnifying the 100+ degree heat. At least the piss thrown at them evaporates quickly.

Nice article from the Times about the hacking of Pulisic in the last game.

Christian Pulisic of U.S. Becomes a Target, but Makes His Mark Anyway

PANAMA CITY — The chopping and the shoving started early, and it did not let up for most of the 90 minutes. Cleats slashed at shins and sweeping tackles undercut the legs of a slender 18-year-old playing against rugged men in a hostile environment.

At 5 feet 8 inches and roughly 140 pounds, the teenager, Christian Pulisic, could be one of the least imposing people to walk into a room loaded with high-performance athletes. But his piercing skill was enough to instill fear in the Panamanian soccer team, which responded with brute force in a 1-1 draw with the United States on Tuesday night.

Though he broke free regularly, and at one point found enough room to create the Americans’ only goal, the attention and abuse that Pulisic endured offered another snapshot of his rise to stardom: On a soccer field, cleat marks on tender legs can be the highest form of flattery.

Wan't sure whether to put this here or Bundesliga thread. At first glance it looks like a backwards step to a team that barely avoided relegation and well below where his current team finished but I do think Wolfsburg have much deeper pockets and larger ambition overall despite their crap season this year.
Yes, despite their terrible run this season, traditionally Wolfsburg is one of the Big Teams in the league, certainly bigger than Hertha.

Whatever happened to Diego? China?

ETA: back at Flamenco in Brazil.

Sidenote, he's one of my celeb pseudo-LALs per my wife's opinion. Or was at least, until I got married and fatter.

Anyone here planning on heading to Smithfield Hall tomorrow night for the WCQ match?
