Welcome to MLS, Zlatan.

i know theres a VAR thread somewhere but i couldnt seem to find it, so please feel free to move it into a thread that may be more relevant.

Somewhat related to Zlatan and his Red Card though. So clearly he deserved the red card for slapping the opposing player but VAR also went back and gave Petrasso a yellow for stepping on his foot. I didnt think VAR was able to review fouls other than red card offenses?

And in case you havent seen the offense here it is:

VAR can give yellows, and do some other things, if doing so is incidental to the things it can do, like giving red cards.
ETA: I don't think Petrasso deserved a yellow for accidentally stepping on the foot of a guy standing inches behind him during a lull in play.
Further ETA: To be clear, VAR can't institute a review looking for a red and decide only to give a yellow. But if it gives a red, other yellows are fair game.

Late and even further ETA: My "Further ETA" info here was wrong. "While yellow card decisions are NOT reviewable, the head referee can decide to caution any players following a Video Review for goals, penalty kicks, red cards or mistaken identity." I believe now that VAR can institute a review looking for a red and decide only to give a yellow. https://www.mlssoccer.com/video-review/faq

Right. Another example. Goalie fouls striker in the box, but ref doesn't call it. VAR intervenes and decides DOGSO. Penalty plus yellow for goalie.
