Hey guys

My first trip to New York in June and have got tickets for your home game v Seattle.
I follow my team home and away in England and like a drink and sing-song before game.

Could anyone please recommend a bar to go to pre-match? Not bothered about food..just the beer :beercheers::beercheers:

Many thanks in advance

Carl

I ran into SFphoto and kylelovescrayons at the Drafthouse before last match against Atlanta was pleasantly surprised to see that they expanded into the empty space that was next door. It's still not an incredibly large bar, but they basically doubled their size and have 2 bars available, 1 for each side now

Did they get Guinness ?

Went with the drafthouse in the end. Good bar and beer and had a great time. Thoroughly enjoyed the match and spoke to a good few fans.
Good luck for the rest of the season.

Cheers mate. Looking forward to the Premier league but still hasn't sunk in.

Standard of football was really good in what was the wettest pitch I've ever seen ! We got tickets in 213 behind the goal. Their ultras behind the other goal are a credit to the club. Never stopped singing and put some of our clubs fans to shame.
David Villa is still a class player and makes that team tick.

Thoroughly enjoyed the day and will defo go back if we go back to NYC.

Enjoy the game and your season in the championship. I go to every home and away game with town, and I'm really going to miss Saturday 3pm kick offs.

Awesome! Glad you enjoyed it.

This post alone may turn me into a Huddersfield fan!*

* - having an American manager doesn't hurt either.

aye i think the atmosphere at the majority of english games, especially top flight stuff, is dire. i've been following local non-league and ticking off games around europe and english home support is really really dreadful for the most part.

i'm sure you will love next season though, and hopefully stop up and send newcastle down, but it does get a bit tiresome in the premier league (when your not in the top 6). have fun anyway and stay humble (i'm looking at you Leicester, Palace, Bournemouth, Stoke)

really? did not know that. fiar play

what do you lot make of Claudio Reyna ? he had one great season with my club. very well liked

Really good head on his shoulders as a GM. Has made some very good trades and used/abused the system at a very high level to make a hyper competitive team out of the fuck awful garbage that Jason Kreis left us after year one.

Also comes with the benefit of having a small chance that his kid could suit up for us one day. By all acccounts Gio Reyna is going to be one of the Crown Jewels of his generation; he's 14 and crushing it at the u-15/16 national team level.

sweet. has he been with your academy from the start? its a good feeling when an academy product turns out for the first 11. a lad who went to school not far from me made it through my clubs academy and eventually sold to liverpool for £24million and has captained the England side at a major tournament. its good to see even though he isnt our player, still 'one of us'

Define start?

He was at the NJRB academy, but that was 4 years ago at this point and the kid is only 14. So from a complete soccer career perspective he would have started at Red Bull. But in transferring over to the NYCFC academy at age 10 I can make a pretty reasonable assertion that yes he started with out academy.

Unless your talking about the start of our academy, then yes he's been there since day one of the NYCFC academy.

Club is three seasons old, and the academy is 4 years old. The owners basically decided that they'd prefer to train kids their way and started the academy at u-12 and have been adding a year every year as the kids age up. What basically every other MLS club has done is coopt the local youth leagues, which leads to first and second year clubs having home grown players. Whereas we're on year three and haven't signed one yet.

My preferred venues:

Yankee Tavern - home of the Bronx Football Social Club
www.yankeetavern.com
72 E 161st St, Bronx, NY 10451 ·

Bronx Drafthouse - home of the Hearts of Oak

bronxdrafthouse.com
884 Gerard Ave, Bronx, NY 10452

both less than 5 minute walk from the Stadium, both within 1 city block of each other
Tried out the drafthouse a few matches back. Too damn tight in there. Also, not really the best pre-match vibe for my taste. We had a beer and went to the Tavern.

At least there, I know the bartenders and patrons will be proper pre-match assholes and not the sort of guys apt to order avocado toast.
