I don't think it's a loan. Zero chance he'd be able to get a work permit in the U.K.

Forget whether MLS allows it. FIFA have banned third-party ownership outright anyway.

It may have already been mentioned elsewhere but I have read in a few places that Benfica was also enamored with the kid and MC swooped in to avoid losing him. The first tier scouting and interest suggest that he has some serious promise. And his natural position is holding and defending in the middle. I like this one a lot if it's a reasonable deal (piggybacking on
Midas Mulligan 's comment re a DP deal, in which case I would have reservations.).

Gabriel Jesus at 19 is an incredible player. Iheanacho and Patrick Roberts at the same age are impact players. Even if this is a Young DP move, I am willing to give this until the middle of April before I overreact here.

I seem to recall the following. Under normal circumstances, a player on loan only counts against the salary cap to the extent of the salary paid by the MLS club. However, if the loan is from an affiliate, then the MLS club has to recognize the full compensation for that year as if it owns the player. I think this would include at least an amortization of the acquisition cost.
So, no idea if we will have to count this guy as a DP. If we do, he would only be a Young DP, and at 19, that means he would only count $150K against the salary cap.
