The Natives are coming

How does one defiantly have a bald spot? Like, the hair tries to grow there and you shave it? Sorry for being that spelling asshole, thats just one of my favorite spelling mistakes I see on the internet (defiantly vs definitely), haha.

Regarding 237. I have season tickets there and had a fantastic time singing along with the rest of the supporters section. I'm not too sure why you think its out of sync at all. Can't wait til Sunday.

Oh spelling on forums. Always fun. I dont think 237 is out of sync. I too had and have season tickets in that section, after a long discussion over drinks (good idea or bad idea) it was agreed that the drum was useless, and some songs severely lacking. Although some are very good, there is defiantly (see what I did there) room for improvement.

But words matter, right? I'm not trying to say that you have motives that you don't -- but in a political climate in which nativist sentiments are tossing out the dog-whistle and being thrown about very overtly, and very nastily, don't you think it might be unwise to invoke this imagery?

Even ironically, it comes across as tone deaf (especially in a league that so actively promotes inclusivity).

2¢.

I give you its not Bubble Gum, sunshine and roses. However Bill cutting is a fictitious character (based on a real person from New Jersey) in a largely inaccurate movie. Our club imagery can be read into however you like.. But when you see a mix of people in the group all from New York, the irony will be complete. Sorry if you dont like the fact the imidry is in semi reference to a 100 year old dead political movement which failed.. its not like the other options of the time were any better (Tammany and the like).

This reminds me of the confederate flag debate. People opposing the image say it represents racism. People in favor say it represents southern heritage.

Of course, the answer is that it represents both.

In your case, your name and other choices represent irony to you. To others they represent nativism, racism, exclusion, etc.

Again, the answer is that your choices will represent both. The thing is, when a group even partially represents some kind of racism, it will both attract people who like that and repel those who don't. So over time (and I think very little time) you will likely represent a lot more of the negative image than the irony you think is worth all this trouble.

I don't know how much you have invested in the choices you've already made. But if it were me, I'd cut my losses and revisit your decisions. Personally, I wouldn't join a group that chose nativism as their emblem. Along with Danton Danton 's you now have 2 more cents on the topic.

If you. ant PC and cant see the Irony in a group from NYC being called the Natives and being exclusionary in nothing more than being from New York... then I think the Supporters section is best not for you mate.. comparing this to the confederate flag debate shows you dont get football supporters cheecky attitude. If I were you I would sit out of the bleachers.. I suppose you are also on the "lets not curse" train as well. Mickey Mouse land and the kiddies best left at home and not in the standing sections

I could be wrong, but I think I do understand you. I could also be wrong in thinking you are missing my point. Either way, I'm going to sign off of this thread. Don't feel bad if I don't reply any further.

commited to singing uniquely NYC FC chants and songs... JOIN US IF YOU WANT LOUD UK STYLE IN YOUR FACE SUPPORTERS

Uniquely NYC but UK style? Unfortunately for you, this is only the fifth or sixth most misguided thing about your proposed supporters group (see things pointed out by all the commenters before me), so you should probably just give up now before you actually spend money on producing top hats and other merchandise.

So it's based on a character from New Jersey????? Now I'm really out (along with all of the other much more legitimate reasons given above)

This all of a sudden makes a ton more sense.

I remember sitting in 237 last year and a bunch of people were chanting "Fuck DC United" (I mean really....DCU???). I made several comments to people around me how stupid of a chant it was.

1) it's completely unoriginal and lacks 0 creativity.
2) with the blatant swearing that is in that chant, it leads to whoever is televising the match to mute the supporters mic, taking away a lot of the energy we bring

The response from a dude nearby was "you don't understand soccer". Yeah...ok.....

I don't mind cursing in songs/chants if it's cleverly done. But no reason to drop F bombs just for fucks sake (see what I did there?)

Stick to the luxury boxes.. like it or not supporters sections are blue collar, not P.C., and full of Banter. Be funny, original, have some drinks, come down off the high horse and sing your lungs out. Thats what its all about. Sorry you dont get the irony and you dont think its funny to have a group of New Yorkers from every ethnic background under this name with a fictitious character as a mascot. But then again, you dont have to. Try trolling less and supporting more
