No, I think he maximized the power of his voting relatives. Come on, one fluky goal apart, Ben Sweat wasn't worth tying David Villa's laces in June. You can take him out of the squad any time, and no one will notice the difference, but can you do the same with Villa, Ring or Harrison? Or the others who weren't on the vote (like Chanot, Callens, Johnson, even McNamara)?

On the other hand, it is only a fun vote. So, I'll happily allow it for him if it makes him & pals happy.

If you normalize for expectations, it's well earned. Most Surprisingly Good Player of the Month doesn't quite have the same ring to it. Maybe Paddy's Special Prize would work better.

I think we agree he did not deserve to win player of the month. Chanot, Callens, Johnson, Villa, Jack, and Ring were all better. I guess all I'm trying to say is, Ben Sweat talently speaking is very limited, and he fully maximized his utility this past month. A goal, three assists as a LB are damn good and there's no chance any of the other healthy players on our roster who have played outside back this year would have done as well (Allen, White, Lopez, idk who else)

This. This is always a question for me choosing the player of the match. Is it the best player on the day or the player that played most above their expectations. I expect Villa to score a goal. I don't expect Ben Sweat to have a goal and assist and do his defensive duties to keep a clean sheet.

So what is the player of the month award for? Is it for the best player or the player who achieves the most off his base talent. If its the later then rename it Etihad utility player of the month award. I thought it was MVP of the month in which case the answer is never ben sweat, sorry buddy, to much talent ahead of you.

To maximize the logic of picking the player who's playing the highest above his own level, we could say that John Stertzer should have been the Etihad Player of the Month, because he achieved his 15 minutes of infamy despite being way too weak player to even make the bench, or the team. o_O

So you are going to compare a player that you admit played 15 minutes for us and never makes the 18 to a player who started and played all but 25 minutes in June. He had multiple assists and a goal. I bold this because you seem to ignore this fact.

If you can't accept the fact that it doesn't necessarily go to the MVP (because then Villa would win every single one), take it up in a different thread. Look at past winners. They include Villa and Lampard, they also include Ballouchy, Saunders, RJAllen.

If you can't admit that Sweat at least played well for us this past month, then it is because of preconceived notions about the player that I am sure everyone here has shared at some point. I know I thought "awe shit" the first time I saw him in the XI

you didn't explain why you made the sentence in the second paragraph bold. You set a precedent, I expect you to follow it. ;)

Anyway, the list of players you have in there has officially told me this award is a farce and no future mention of it should ever be credited to a player's thread. Alert me when something really special happens to a player, cause this award is doo-doo now.

No, I'm not comparing anyone, but intentionally wanted to point out the illogical argument with a nearly absurd example. I underlined that with a smiley. If you couldn't read that, you obviously lack a sense of humour.
