I thought we might want to put curling into its own thread, instead of continuing to clog up the stadium thread with curling and curling related discussion.

That said, the World Curling Championships, men's pool play, US vs Scotland is on Universal today at 4pm. Channel 567 if you have fios.

I'm thinking we might need a curling forum.

This is the one time for which I will be an honorary Scot for the day.

Up Murdoch's men!

FYI, I got this emailed to me today.

I’m counting on you guys for some hotter than hot Olympic curling takes.
Not much going on at the moment due to the 14-hour time difference. Next up is not-quite-Russia vs Canada at 6:05am Saturday, our time. Which bar are we meeting at to watch it? Got six hours to kill before the Man City at Leicester City match of course so we can enjoy plenty of curling while having beers and breakfast.

If anyone up north (or willing to come to Westchester) is interested, I've been meaning to do this for years, but never could find someone to go with:

We also host learn to curls at the Brooklyn Lakeside Curling Club at the LeFrak Ice Center in Prospect Park. Yours truly was recently quoted in the NY Post about it :)

But to be honest, if you have the opportunity to go to Ardsley, definitely do it. They have dedicated curling ice that is an infinitely better surface than what we have in Brooklyn.

Team Shuster with a huge win this morning over the Swiss. The Olympic curling tiebreakers aren't the most clear, but based on my interpretation, the USA should advance to the knockout stage with a win over Great Britain tonight (12am eastern). Gonna be a late night tonight keeping my neighbors up.

The women's team is a bit more jumbled at the moment. They will need to beat Sweden in their final round robin match and may need some help. Though there are still a few other matches to happen before they play Sweden that will have an effect on the standings, and it just seems like there's too many scenarios for me to try and figure out at the moment.

I thought all the tied teams play a tiebreaker game? That's how I understood it.

The way I read it (and I could definitely be wrong) is that there is a tiebreaker game if two teams are tied for the last knockout stage spot. But if there are multiple teams tied, then they eliminate teams until they are down to two to play the tiebreaker game.

"a maximum of one session of tie-breakers will be played to determine which team(s) advances to the playoffs. Team(s) can be eliminated, without playing an extra game, if more than one session of tie-breakers would be required."

I guess the above could mean if 4 teams are tied for the last spot, that could mean two tiebreaker games among 4 teams that could technically only be 1 session.

Oh, I see. Interesting. Thanks.

Actually, just found this and it appears to be legit, the US mens team automatically advances to the medal round with a win except if Canada beats Denmark and Korea beats Japan. That would result in a 4-way tie for the last two spots and apparently there would be two tiebreaker games played (3v6 and 4v5).
