Today, We Americans with disabilities , are celebrating the signing of American with Disabilities Act - ADA. The law signed by President George Herbert Walker Bush on July 26, 1990.
Before the ADA, life was very for difficult for PWD's. Discrimination was rampant.
There were no jobs, and if anyone lucky to have a job, there was no accessible public transportation. The MTA workers were horrible, mean people. When the first city buses were installed with wheelchairs lifts, some drivers would acquire selective blindness. when seeing any person in a wheelchair at a bus stop, the driver would not stop and continue driving on to the next stop.

Navigating and Crossing the streets in NYC was a daunting impossible obstacle course for anyone in a wheelchair . The subway system was totally inaccessible. Thanks to the ADA , today some major subway stations have elevators . Presently, The MTA is working and struggling to make it more accessible but the City and the system of railroads is antiquated and trillions of dollars is needed to make fully accessible.
The MTA in order to comply with the ADA law, created Access A Ride. A semi-private system of white buses and vans whom The disabled community has jokingly dubbed Stress A Ride.

I want to dedicate this thread to my mentor and friend Marty Sesmer( RIP). He with many others disabled advocates spent their lives and continue to work tirelessly to make the Good Ol' USA a great home for PWD's

We are going to be celebrating today in Gracie Mansion- lets have a toast for Marty, Denise, Statue of Liberty , The Constitution and to the vision and wisdom of our Forefathers and Pres. H.W Bush. CHEERS!:)

Thank you Good Lord for giving us this beautiful planet!:soccerball:

Well I'm sure I would not be the only one to pry into something that's none of my business .
What ever life hands you we have to be strong and deal with it . I know this well with my Parents and Husbands health issues . Thank You for bringing this to front with this post . People helping people is a beautiful thing ! I ride city buses and am APPALLED when Assholes have to be told to move somewhere else when a wheelchair comes on . Come on Really !! I want to Bitch Slap these Dumb Asses !! ..............Of course the worse disability one could ever be afflicted with is not to be totally head over heals in love with Andrea Pirlo . Thank you God for sparing me this and look over ones who are unfortunate !! ........Thanks Diva You Rock and always good to hear from you !:):):)

NYC's transportation system is a nightmare for the disabled but the half price metro cards aren't bad, but they should be free lol I used to see you when I had Delta seats. I didn't know it was you, but you were always there and I was always glad to see you enjoying the matches.

Nice spread. I’m jealous.

Those of us still stuck in Manhattan apartments have to spring for $70 bbq delivery from Virgil’s.

Biggest thing I hate about NYC. Food that was literally created to be cheap and plentiful gets turned into a $35+ delicacy, even though it’s done poorly relative to the real thing.

All of that to say, I miss cheap barbecue and seafood. And I miss grilling (no, generalized people/yankees, grilling and barbecue aren’t even close to the same). Grilling most of all, actually. Love spending way longer than necessary to cook something. You have to turn it into a production. As long as you’re grillmaster, no one questions grabbing you a beer whenever you ask.

I almost thought I would need to ding you for calling this barbecue.
