Based upon Chanot's and Brillant's preseason form, Callens may turn into a critical cog. I pray that his signing was closer to the hit column.

I'm starting to feel as if the Peruvian coach holds a grudge against Callens. One of their defenders was injured and they chose to call up a 21 year old over Callens.

Perhaps, or PV asked nicely to have Callens left off because of the unnecessary extra work load while we're short of defenders.

Remember when Bradley Wright-Phillips acted like a dick because Callens liked a tweet about himself defending well following the 1-0 win?

Well, here's another tweet about Callens and he's not even tagged and retweeted this.

Hope Callens keeps BWP in his pocket the next time Red Bulls come into Yankee Stadium. Wanker.

The NYCFC Nation podcast this week asked people to tweet at them who their NYCFC MVP is so far this season and gave four options: Johnson, Maxi, Ring, and Isi.

I think Callens has to be on that list. And as much as I love Isi, I think it's that spot that Callens should take in that poll.

I'd go Maxi first -- the guy has 7 goals and 10 assists midway through the season. He's having an MLS MVP-caliber season. After somewhat disappointing last year in some people's eyes, Maxi has been immense for this club this year.

Callens probably 2nd on the team, but Maxi is just too good this year. He's fun to watch with all the offensive pieces around him now.

We lose half our matches without Ring. Every other position we have players that can step in, but Ring is indispensable. He’s the team’s lynchpin and he’s the de facto captain on the field marshaling everybody.

That’s not to say that Maxi and Callens aren’t also highly needed, but we have two other CBs (Chanot/Ibeagha) that can play and a few guys that can play as a #10 (Villa, Medina, Isi, Lewis) if needed.

Well then could you possible make the same argument for Johnson using that criteria?

Johnson is definitely an unsung hero on this team. He still has some head scratchers, but those are few and far between, and I never clench up tight anymore when the ball is in our box the way I always did watching Saunders..... it was a fore-gone given that saunders would cough up a goal while Johnson makes incredible saves look routine.

How is there not more forum outrage that Callens didn't even make it on to the All-Star game ballot? Every single starting goalie in the league gets on, but a top 5 CB gets left off...

  1. The point of MLS outrage is to wallow in victimhood, not to decry injustice.
  2. Adding Callens just means he would replace a teammate because every team gets 8 nominees, so the snub cannot be blamed on anti-NYCFC bias. In other words, See Point #1.
  3. Also nobody cares about the All-Star game.

The fewer of our players that get selected for this event, the better.
