Gio Reyna to Dortmund

Not surprised but UGH!!!

Anyone know what is going on with the portion of transfer fees set aside for youth development clubs when the transfer involves US players? There was a fight with Yedlin's fee to Newcastle but I haven't been keeping up on it. Would NYCFC get a portion of future transfer fees?

I think yedlin stuff still being fought over

the fee is not much at all for youth development i assume for now. The thing is though not sure how much if at all will come in future since he was not under contract. not even sure how fifa would rule that.

A great example of the conflict of interest having a GM that is the father of your non-contact star player.

Anyone who was at the Red Rooster dinner (how you doin Diva?) saw the conflict in Claudio's response when asked about this.

Great for the USA, though.

This was happening for a while and just emphasizes NYCFC needs the infrastructure to get these players minutes, especially on the first team.

good for him, this is a great opportunity for him and i hope this opens a door for american youth players in the future as well to get the kind of training they need to bring the national team to the next level.... unless he gets a german passport after a few years and completely deads us.

That's kind of my point - Claudio would not have done anything that would make his son more expensive to a European academy, so no pressure at all to sign a homegrown contract.

It was literally in Claudio's family best interests to fail at his efforts to help the team's best interests (i.e. signs his son to a pro contact).

Yes. But at the very least, MLS, USSF, US Department of Labor, etc. need to allow training compensation benefits that may be translated into GAM.

Ugh.... Worst kept secret....

Hopefully he finds his stride there and excels! Would be great to have a Dortmund pipeline, but with guys we have under contract.

Technically, they are minors. I'm not one of the lawyers on the Forums. So, I can't tell you why there is a problem, but that's what USSF always says regarding training compensation.

Garber has said that they can’t sign anyone under 18 to a “professional contract” due to US labor laws but I don’t believe that’s in the same boat as enforcing the FIFA statute for solidarity payments to youth clubs. From what I’ve read that’s just down to all of the parties involved not having worked out a system for handling it.

Wut??? What the hell kind of contract have all of the P40, GenerationAdidas, and now HG players been signing if not a pro contract?

And if they’re referring to youth clubs, well, everybody signs on a dotted line before joining and stepping on the field, whether there’s payment from club to player or not, otherwise there’s all kinds of liability on the health/safety side for the club.

You gotta mean the age of 16 by that, right?

Even players under 16 have been signed to Pro contracts with MLS.
Really? I knew there were some 16 year olds that have been signed, but wasn't sure and just assumed there hadn't been any younger.

And as I'm typing this out I realize Joe Fucking Scally is only 15, haha.
