I find the Athletic to be pretty weak sauce and not worth the money even at half price.

I find far better coverage of soccer elsewhere, on every level. There’s not a single article that covers the depths of finance, tactics, or pageantry that even remotely justifies subscribing.

My two cents.

Unfortunately I bought a year of it to see how it is. Not terrible, but I agree with all your points. Read it for a week and removed my automatic subscription. I still have it for another 11 months, but I will only be reading it sparsely.

The Athletic is more useful for MLS than foreign soccer leagues, if largely due to the lack of competition. I'm not sure it is worth the cost based on that alone, though.

I also bought an annual subscription (discounted), and generally agree.

I like the idea of the project. The websites for ESPN and SI have become so cluttered and full of bullshit, they are almost unreadable.

Unfortunately, the Athletic just doesn’t have the thoughtful, comprehensive coverage it needs to stand out - at least not for soccer. It is getting better, however, and I can’t discount the chance that they will be well worth it once they finish building out their platform.

This season went to hell once the Vieira to Arsenal rumors started, which flowed directly into the Vieira to Nice rumors.
We either do a poor job of screening players for a propensity to get injured, or our trainers suck, or both.
Our roster construction is too dependent on second rate national team players. If we’re going to lose 4-6 guys every break, they better be fucking superstars.

idk where else to post this, but my friend and I always see this guy in the supporter section (we sat next to him at the RB open cup game) who wears this blue/white/grey jester hat to the games, wears an Alex Ring jersey, and he stands on the bottom-right of the supporter section (you can see him in most highlights on the right side of the screen)
We were wondering if anyone knows who this is, or if he is a forum member? (Kinda like how I found out that "headband guy" is Lion)

"headband guy" isn't Lion. I believe they're just good friends, not 100% sure though.
The other guy with the jester hat is Hearts of Oak I think, no idea if he's on the forums though.

but... but I've asked before and people told me that was Lion. >_______>
(and he sits down there, we know that too)

Oh, he's a member of Hearts of Oak? gotcha.
We were just wondering bc we keep seeing him every game lol.

Next goal is to find Shwallacus in the crowd. That's gonna be a challenge. lol

Just look for the "broccoli" (cough mgarbowski mgarbowski cough). That or a "Filet o Fish" #33 kit. Only clues I can give you. The rest is up to you.

Let's clear things up. I am not headband guy nor would I ever wear a headband to an NYCFC match. I'm just Lion and prefer to keep my identity private. If people come up to me and say hello, I'll introduce myself.

Headband guy is Anthony and he's proud of his headband status: https://twitter.com/ajerussi18?lang=en

(He gets his tickets from someone else that sits Pitchside.)

The guy with the jester hat is likely this guy, 7:26

Lol im pretty sure everyone on the forums knows who you are the same way everyone on the forums knows who i am. Also pretty sure youve self promoted yourself before.

Headband guy is the man, total superfan.

I know who Jester hat guy is also but dont feel comfortable sharing his name. not sure if hes on the forums never discussed it with him. He is for the most part at every game and an active supporter.

I've been living a lie *dies*
I'll keep thinking if you as headband guy, though. Thanks for the clarification✌

Yes, that's the guy. I guess he's well-known? Since I'm not part of supporter groups,I don't know any "you should know this supporter" people.
