I'm flying home from an unrelated trip Sunday, scheduled Departure 5:38pm - Arrival 7:45. If on time, I guess the plane probably actually lands around 7:15 at LGA. There's no point buying in-flight wifi (unless I just want score updates) because it won't support video streaming. I should be home about 45 minutes after deplaning.

If you were in this situation, would you shut off notifications, and watch when you get home? Or check the score as soon as we land and try to get a stream up? I'm pretty sure I will go for the instant gratification but curious how others would handle.

Does the plane have in flight live TV? I know some Delta ones do. I've bought in-flight wifi to stream World Cup matches from Fox Sports Go and it worked on Delta. I don't think you should have a problem doing the same if you want to watch the match on the ESPN app (with a cable subscription).

The flight has WiFi and Delta Studio. I think the latter is all pre-recorded stuff. Nothing live. I thought GoGO Wifi throttled all streaming. Surprised the WC worked for you. Maybe I give it a shot.

If not, and if I want to avoid spoilers, does anybody know a way to just shut off all notifications on an iPhone short of keeping it in airplane mode when I land? I need connection for other reasons but if I decide to stay dark and watch when I get home I don't want something popping up on my screen.

Depending on what you sort of service you still want out of your phone, you can set “Do Not Disturb” on. You can set it so that it will still ring for phone calls, but all other notifications are off

I would shut off notifications, not look at my phone or my laptop, and watch the DVR'ed game when I get home. I've done that before for NYCFC games, it's not as bad as you think.

I'm sure there's a similar thing on iPhones, but on my Android I can go into settings, click on Apps, and block all notifications from specific apps. Remember to block notifications from Facebook in case the club puts anything out there after the final whistle.

Delta Studio is pre-recorded, but sometimes they will have live TV as an option depending on the plane, route, etc. I think in the past 20 flights I flew with them when there was a in-flight entertainment system, maybe 4 had live TV.

I paid the $16 (I think) for 24 hours of Wifi. I bought it on the flight, not before. And I was flying on a newer plane. I think I had a VPN on too, but that shouldn't matter. But if you can spare the dollars and try it, why not?

Thanks. I tend to forget how flexible DND can be. I set it for overnights way back and hardly looked at it since.

Same on the iPhone. I'm trying to avoid going app-by-app because it's so likely I'll miss one, but I think the Do Not Disturb trick might work.

I looked more closely. Delta has Live TV as a separate listing on applicable flights. It also has some flights showing WiFi and others that have Hi-Speed WiFi, which is probably what you need for live streaming. But my return flight has neither LiveTV nor Hi Speed Wifi. No surprise, as Knoxville-LGA is hardly a major route. I'm lucky it's non-stop.

Ok, who wants to place bets on what minute we get our first red? I'm thinking 7'

I checked out r/AtlantaUnited and they hate Geiger even more, although they've gotten 2 red cards in the 4 matches that he's refereed for them (or VAR), they have never lost the match.

Battle of the confirmation bias tinfoil hat narratives:
"Mark Geiger was once again the story of the game, as he tends to be in Mercedes-Benz Stadium these days. Atlanta United players and manager all clearly knew he was in charge in the VAR booth on the night, and made many thinly-veiled remarks about their opinion of him and of the calls he reviewed that went against the Five Stripes."

"Martino has never held back from criticizing the officials in his 47 regular season games in charge of the Five Stripes.
But he unloaded on Sunday on one particular ref who has played a significant role in taking from Atlanta United two goals in its past two home games, and basically giving one to Sunday’s opponent by not suggesting a review of a call that resulted in a penalty kick.
That referee is Mark Geiger...."

Use a vpn to stream.
